Major Rain Event for TX & LA.......Eastward

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Mon Jan 12, 2004 8:02 pm

The grounds are still near saturation across SE TX and steady moderate rains are likely for days starting tomorrow. May even see heavy rains develop later in the week. A tremendous amount of Pacific mositure is poised to move into TX and LA. In addition cyclogenesis is likely to occur across Deep S TX and move ENE across the NW GOM toward LA throwing a large precip shield across the Gulf Coast.

Don't be surprised if FFW are issued starting in TX and spreading E.

It sure looks that way KD!!! And unfortunately(or maybe fortunately) it is not going to be cold enough for any winter precip this time around. If this does unfold as it looks like it could, AND IF it makes the turn up the Eastern Seaboard it could be a whopper of a storm. Lot's of this is still up in the air as far as the East is concerned though. Kind of just thinking out loud.

TX & LA is just the beginning of this storm system. I expect signifcant snowfall to occur from the Mid-Atlantic into the NE.

I want snow but it will not be with this one. Truley sad.

I'm not real sure about the NE getting any(much) of this, but I think the MA will fare quite well unless of course it tracks further South than you are saying and it is progged right now.

Again, the model differences tonight are in regards to the northern stream features and not so much the southern stream features ... of course, the GFS seems to be overdoing the PJ for the weekend storm, and other models have vastly difference SFC depictions in the 144 hour timeframe on the 12z runs....

Refer to this THREAD for more details and maps ...

Our local forecasters showed us with a 30% coverage of rain for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this afternoon. When they updated the site, it changed, starting tomorrow and thru Saturday...20%, 30%, 50%, 60%, and 80%.
Of course that forecast is likely to fluctuate.

I love it when it rains...but I just wish it was cold enough to be a snow event.

Snow Geese

#10 Postby One Eye » Mon Jan 12, 2004 10:20 pm

Looks like my "snow geese", which looked a little promising according to the models last week, has turned into a duck :( .Looks like defintly a big rain event with the low tracking slowly east-northeastward with the modified Pacific air on its heels. The Camelias, daffodils, and tulips well be having a hay day. The only positive is that there's still several weeks of winter left.

I notice this morning in our nws discussion that, in my opinion, they no longer seem that concerned with the big rain event, almost non-chalant. No more "could get interesting, stay tuned, etc.". More like, yeah, it's gonna rain. I noted in yesterday afternoon's discussion "Welcome to winter, southeast Texas style". So could be another BORING weather event and we DO need the rain. I swear, first the BIG ARTIC CHILL (NOT), then the BIG RAIN EVENT (NOT). I will say that if the old wives tale that arthritis flares up before rainy weather is true, then we're gonna get hammered since I'm about ready to eat my entire bottle of pain pills this morning. But that could be just to the fact I'm exercising (YUCK) everyday. Who knows? I swear, makes me wanna pull my feathers out.

This has been a very dry month for us here in D/FW
It has been weeks since we had any real rainfall, some of our local WX forecasters have called this "The Winter that Wasn't". But they have hinted at a possible artic front late next week and weekend?? I hope so!!!!!
