"Snow Geese" in TX die from starvation

#1 Postby Portastorm » Mon Jan 12, 2004 4:04 pm

... oh well, so much for the much ballyhooed winter weather scenario for Texas and our neighbors to the east. Every model and their brother and every forecast I've seen keeps temps way too warm for any excitement.

Gotta give credit to the NWS guys. They were right after all.

Meanwhile, JB and others have a lot of explaining to do.

What a bummer!

I was just on my way in here to ask what happened to the cold weather? The front forecasted on Friday does not look that strong at all. LOL!!!

My question is...is the cold air delayed or not coming at all?

Yep, definately no winter precip this week it will be way too warm. Doesn't look like we'll be seeing any of that arctic air they have up north either :(

Can't disagree with any of the above for the near term.(through this week)

Long term(VERY DANGEROUS!!!!) could be a different story. It is only a wild guess this far out, but the time frame of the the 24th-25th looks somewhat promising for some winter temps and precip across the deep South, especially in the NE LA, S Central MS North, and NW AL areas. Less promising but still a possibility is E/SE TX, more Southern parts of LA, MS. Again, though at this range it all could change to 80º weather for all we know. Such is the lot of the Southern Snow Goose. :grr: :grr: :grr:

By the looks of it VB, the cold arctic air is taking its sweet time getting down to us. Maybe next week? I sure hope so.

I am declaring an official day of mourning here in VA over the recent death of the Southern Snow Geese.

I am saddened that climatic change is impacting our precious wildlife in such a destructive manner.

I will never forget the Southern Snow Goose as long as I live. They were so nice to have around and I will miss them dearly.

Texas snow geese are not alone in this!!! Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri are in the same boat-Winter has gone into hiding and from the talk of local mets, will not show its head for quite a while!! Hopefully in Feb. the cold air and Winter action will shift back to the west a bit-only time will tell-as for now, I'll enjoy the 40's, 50's and 60's forcasted for me over the next 7-10 days-have a great day!!!

Winter in the south will probably take a vacation until spring after all the fruit trees bud and bloom...then boom...hard freeze and no fruit. Usually happens every year. This year was the first in about 7 that we had some quince that managed to miss getting nipped in the bud.

You're right Tim. It seems to warm up and everything starts blooming, then a hard freeze and everything dies. :(
Let's hope that doesn't happen this year. However, my high today was 74°! Kinda hard to believe that 2 days ago I was scraping ice off of my windshield so I could see to drive.

Bring on the cold and SNOW!!!!
