Tryin' to Get a Handle on Next Week!

#1 Postby kpantz » Sat Jan 10, 2004 10:29 pm

OK experts, time to come help me out:

I see three, maybe four events for the MA/NE next week.

1. Sun/Mon: No biggie...pretty far north through upstate NY.
2. Wed/Thu: Looking increasingly impressive, but still too clipper-ish to dump heavy snow...probably 6-8 inches in the sweet spot, wherever THAT is.
3. Next weekend: Possible big dog? Day 7 EC has the thursday system way out of the picture, but something looks to be brewing along the gulf coast.

Is that the right assessment? There doesn't look to be any sensible weather at day 7 over the MA/NE (except COLD temps). Everyone, though is talking about how "classic" the setup is at D+7. Are they referring to the southern/northern branch interaction over the southern plains?

I'm getting confused past day 5 (the Wed/Thu system). Of course, most of the models get confused past day 5, so I don't feel alone.

I'd appreciate any comments or advice here. I'm not a professional met (obviously), but I have a Met degree, so most of this makes sense, but it's been a while since I've really forecasted...I'm more of a wishcaster (because I can afford to be :) ).

Thanks!

The latest forecast from the NOAA tonite at 7:30 say the Low will track right along the VA adn NC border then track northward. It looks like the snow will last at least 24 hours in Richmond,VA. And then even better they develop a storm Friday night that begins to spread precip over Virginia around midnight Friday. This is a big change from earlier today. What are yalls thoughts on this???
