Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: December 12, 2003 7:46 a.m.

Potentially Big Storm Coming Out of the Southwest...

The storm centered over New Mexico this morning will track across Texas to Louisiana by tomorrow morning. North of the storm track, ice and snow will be found In the next 24 hours, at least a couple of more inches of snow will accumulate in the New Mexico and Colorado mountains. From the northeast corner of New Mexico to eastern Kansas, a general corridor of 3-6 inches of snow amounts will be common; within that corridor, most likely from the northernmost Texas Panhandle to south-central Kansas, 6 to as much as 12 inches can accumulate. South of the snow corridor, from generally Lubbock, Texas, to Oklahoma City to Little Rock, mixed precipitation will be found. By tomorrow morning, the easternmost extent of the snow will be Missouri, western Kentucky, and northwestern Tennessee. By Sunday, the Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic and the Northeast will feel the effects of this storm.
Lake-effect snow is still falling today. Parts of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the western Lower Peninsula of Michigan as well as southwest Ontario and western New York will pick up a new 1-3 inches.
A moist, strong onshore flow into the Pacific Northwest means more mountain and interior snow. The Washington and Oregon Cascades, eastern Washington and Oregon, as well as northern and central Idaho and western Montana will receive several inches of new snow in the next 24 hours. Three to six inches will be likely in the northern and central Sierra; a couple of inches will accumulate in northeastern Nevada.
