Blizzard warning Saturday and Saturday evening for NYC....

Good evening everyone. 560 cancelled flights in the NYC area. Complicating matters, a blizzard warning has been issued for New York City, all of Long Island, northeast Jersey, and the Connecticut coastline. In addition storm warnings are out for the coast of Long Islands points north and east along the New England for winds sustained at 45-50 mph with gusts over 65 mph. Overwash is expected and expect tidal flooding with tides 1 1/2-3 feet above normal for the New England shoreline. New York Harbor points south along the Jersey shore is under a coastal flood warning. Tides are expected to be 2-3 feet above normal. This along with the astronomically higher tide from the full moon will result in tidal flooding that is expected to be moderate in nature. Beach erosion is expected along the coast.

Meanwhile expect sustained winds of 30-35 mph with gusts to 50-55 mph in the New York City area tomorrow. Same can be said in Boston later tomorrow into tomorrow night. The winds combined with 10-16 inches of falling snow is expected to be a huge problem for both New York and Boston and everywhere in between. Areas northwest of New York and west of Boston from northeast Pennsylvania through southeast New York and into west central new England could see locally up to 20 inches of snow before all is said and done. Huge snow drifts are likely in this situation. Expect to potentially not go anywhere tomorrow in NYC and Boston tomorrow into early Sunday. Airports could be totally shut as well in the tristate region and points northeastward into New England.

Further south in Philly, Baltimore, and DC expect a solid 6-12 inches of additional snow tonight into Saturday. That's on top of what has already fallen. Some places in those three cities could see totals of 8-14 inches of snow from both part 1 and part 2 by tomorrow night. Strong winds are expected in these areas too, but gusts near 35 mph. Still the potential exists for near blizzard conditions in exposed areas in Philly, Baltimore, and DC. Bottom line, don't go anywhere unless absolutely neccessary in the megalopolis. This is a major to crippling snow event for the big cities ladies and gentlemen. Stay tuned!
