It Would Suck To Live In DC and Love Snow

#1 Postby North MD » Fri Dec 05, 2003 4:21 pm

I am talking about the inner city downtown district. According to news reports, they have little if any snow on the ground. I think they officially have about an inch recorded from earlier this morning. Been raining most of the day. Meanwhile, nearby suburbs to the north and west have picked up well over 6 inches as of this morning. Even downtown Baltimore had several inches on the roads/sidewalks this morning when I went into work. I live 50 miles due north of DC, and 850 feet in elevation, and I had 8+ inches just this morning , with more snow falling now after some zr/sleet in the afternoon hours.

here in Old Town Alexandria on the waterfront- beautiful place to live but this one really hurts. We just cannot seem to changeover to snow. Very very aggravating but hey after the blizzard last year I need to just be thankful for what I have, and just laugh about what I don't! Oh well hoping for the changeover sometime this century!

That's wierd that Columbia only got a dusting. I'm in Jessup, 5 mi east and I got about 4-5 here this morning. Currently drizzling, 33 deg. Waiting for the changeover. It snowed enough that I didn't have to go to work and since it's supposed to get warm I'm not going to shovel. Perfect...

Leaving College Park and driving around was amazing. Did not go more than 2 miles to north and west and snowcover went from 1/2" to 2" quickly then to up to 5 in Rockville, then came back to Greenbelt and bare ground from Greenbelt all the way down to Camp Springs.

As far as I am concerned, DC got ripped off in the PDS storm. They recorded 16.7", when nearby burbs were 2 feet plus!. Baltimore of course recorded a whopping 28.5"

Oh I can vouch for the hated R/S line in the DC area!

I grew up in Calvert County near the Bay and suffered in these R/S line events. Now I live in Germantown, 30 miles NW of DC, and it makes all the difference! We got 8 inches last night, and when I got to work in DC nothing but rain!

Other examples are last Christmas -- we got several inches and my Calvert folks got nothing. They also got nothing from the January 5th surprise that gifted us with 5". In the big PD Weekend storm they got only 12" (hlaf of our total) due to excessive sleet.

We cant' compare to you folks up in the NE but if you're gonna live in the DC area and you like snow, you have to be in those NW burbs!
