Colin - time for me to be the pessimist. I just don't see a snow event from this storm - except for higher elevations in the mid-Atlantic.

I will be shocked and amazed if I get all rain and you get a decent snow event. I am starting to come around to the idea of this storm actually affecting my area (as opposed to sliding off the coast too far south). But I still think we will see rain.

quite a disturbance is stirring up, the question however will be, how much cold air, moisture, will be settling over NC,VA,MD then roaring up the coast then breaking off out to see, many locals are predicting rain and snow, for NC,VA, and upwards all snow, but it looks to me like the temperatures will be cold enough for it to be mainly snow if not a wintry mix, so be prepared, as we eye this mediocre storm

Best bet is to keep checking back in for updates on this. Potential is there for sig snowfall in WV and OH as well as of right now. Plenty of time for things to change.

king...its looking like everyone may get in on this one...im looking at the GFS H5 pattern and it digs the PJ s/w in behind the 50/50 low (which is in no hurry to get out of the way)...so there may me more than enough cold air for everyone north of the PA/MD border to remain as all snow.

LOL virginia is a big state---

I would definitely not favor any snow unless you hit Northern Virginia North and West and thats pretty iffy...DCA and immediate suburbs i would get would be mostly rain but still way to early...if DC can have a snowstorm on Veterans day, i cant rule anything out. Of Course anywhere in VA where there are mountains likely will see some good snowfall.

the CAD will be key..GFS looks like it wants to keep High in place and strenghten it

We will see when all is done but this would be a big event if we had the following.
1.Non zonal flow
2.Sub tropic jet
3.Trough
None of these are in existence and the cold air is not plunging in such a way to kick up spin around the Gulf, the cold will set up nicely for Pennsylvania and north of that but you have to have a strong and lingering storm to begin with and in this pattern I do not see that and this event is not substantive of itself to bring about what is being discussed.

W53 - what you are saying makes sense. Besides - I don't want get my hopes up about a snow event only to have rain, or partly cloudy.

This is Jeb, reporting from northern Virginia, in Woodbridge. We are at 70' elevation. We are just west of I95 20 mi ssw of Washington DC.

I believe this storm to bring me 2 inches of rain, then changing to snow an accumulating 1 to 3 inches on bushes, cars and the northern sides of objects.

What does everyone else think will happen here with this storm?

-Jeb!!!! READY to Shovel SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!! :)
