Winter weather.....Some big changes too....

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Mon Nov 24, 2003 1:09 pm

Good afternoon everyone. Huge temperature changes and more snowfall is the big topic of this day. First the overnight lows, which was very cold in many spots this morning. Chicago dipped to 21 this morning, Kansas City 17, Denver 3, and Williston, ND just 15 degrees below zero. Some dangerously cold temperatures this morning. Mobridge, South Dakota dipped to 10 degrees below zero this morning for a new record low. Even down into parts of Kansas, temperatures dipped into the single digits to near zero this morning.

Snowfall amounts from this recent storm are as follows. Ray, Minnesota received up to 13 inches of snow. Superior saw 9.5 inches. Duluth, MN 7.3 inches and St Cloud 7.9 inches of snow. The Minnepolis St Paul area saw anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow.

Currently temperatures are 30-40 degrees colder than this time yesterday. For example St Louis is 31 degrees right now. Yesterday at this time St Louis was nearing 70 degrees. Meanwhile Chicago was 63 degrees at this time yesterday afternoon around early afternoon. Right now Chicago is seeing flurries and snow showers with temperatures in the low 20s at 23. Chicago is 40 degrees colder than this time yesterday. Louisville is just 34 degrees right now. Louisville was 70 degrees at this time yesterday. Certainly some big changes in the temperature dept.

In addition to temperature changes, the chance of snow continues today for the midwest and Ohio Valley. Cleveland, Ohio just changed over to snow and they are 34 degrees at the present time. Pittsburgh has rainfall. However they too will change over to snow as the cold front roars towards the east. Ahead of the front, expect 65-70 degree high temps from Philly down to DC. Behind the front, Philly to DC will be hard pressed to reach the mid 40s. Big changes coming up.

Meanwhile with the much colder air moving over the relatively warmer waters of lakes michigan and superior, lake effect snows are occurring today. The lake effect favored areas could see 3-6 inches of snow today before gradually tapering off late tonight into Tuesday.

That's the latest on this no doubt interesting day in the world of weather. Big changes today, stay tuned!

Jim

Agreed, and a change for the better IMO. I was getting tired of temps in the 60's in the latter part of November. So bring on the cold air!

We've not the *heavy* snowfall just yet, actually, it's a little early BUT......we've DANG sure, like Josh, have had WAY BELOW normal temps with the LOWEST humidity levels, dewpoints I've EVER seen. The RH the past 4 mornings has been in the SINGLE DIGITS with the DP'S in the *NEGATIVE* range, take for instance this morning, a low temp of 4°, RH of 13%, DP of "-9°!"
