1970 is really closest match with strong low pressure over New England keeping DC area in 20+ mph winds for 3 days. 1953 was just simply a very windy month of November. 1979 November had two frontal passages causing winds gusts over 60mph and 4-5" snow on 11/22& 11/23 1n 1993 we had back to back very stormy weekends on 11/20-21 & 11/27-28. The fabulous winter of 95-96 really began on 11/11 when a very strong front ripped thru and dropped temps from low 60's to low 40's in one hour with brief heavy snow and 25+ winds for 15 hours.
Mixed results from the winters that followed but this record setting year of 2003 looks to carry what I think is going to be an extremely oscillating winter, generally milder than normal but with some extreme shots mixed in.
