Don't get to excited yet......................

#1 Postby LehighValleyForcaster » Wed Nov 05, 2003 6:50 am

This weekend will bring cooler temps but only for 3 days.

Looks like a ridge will be developing mid next week that will be pushing the artic jet stream back up into Canada.

I know everyone is hoping for the trough to move in and stay but does not look like it will.

The models have changed in the last 2 days and the warmer temps will continue to stay in the Northeast region.

This could change but I doult it.

I still believe we will have a late start with winter and a early spring.

Great...I think I should just say "Winter is over." I don't think it's ever going to come... :(

Yes True winter does not start officially untillDec. But if you get a great start typically by mid november signs are that the winter will be very active and also be much more colder. I do hate slow starting winters and this one seams like it is going be just one fo those Lets Say Typical Winters here in the East where it is disheartening and just downright disapointing imo. I am surely worried at this point and I do know it is early but I am trying to face the facts of it. Lets hope somethign majorly changes in a hurry to chage this feeling but i am standing back watchign this unfold and it is not a happy feeling just a very stumach upsetting feeling.

It is too early to cancel winter. If by the end of December we have not had any truly cold weather - and the medium to long range forecasts don't show any cold weather in sight - then maybe I will agree that winter is a no-show. I still think that I will see accumulating snow before December 15.

I remember people cancelling the Atlantic hurricane season earlier this year after three or four storms then a pause. I think that we have to take a wait and see approach. Outside here today... it is 44º. Our avg. high is 60º. We may not crack that until Monday of next week. To me winter is here... at least to a degree. ;)

There really haven't been many winters that ended early after starting late. Do you know if a good amount of those winters that got a late start feature major winter storms in Feb-Mar?

normally winters that start early end early and those that start late end late.

for example...winters like 2001/02 (with a very warm early winter) tend to feature more cold and snow later in the season (MAR-APR).
