Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
Highlight: For me it was the DFW Icemageddon in December. Even though it caused lots of issues, there was a beauty to it that I captured in over 100 pictures. Me and my 9 yr old strolled through the wooded/open area near our house and down to Lake Ray Hubbard. It was amazing to see all the ice and capture it in pics. Below are 3 pics from my collection.
Lowlight: The lack of meaningful rainfall. Enough said.

Yet, he takes time to interact with us and be crazy about the weather like we all are. And come tropical weather season, you best take ALL of his posts to heart. He's my go-to-guy for the tropics. ...snip
Wait! Don't go winter!
Shut up, Snow Miser, it's time to start thinking HEAT again!

Summer is coming for sure but could there be one more freeze left for Dallas?

Highlight-Icemageddeon I'd say. Beautiful and a pain in the you know what at the same time. But alot of people got precious family time this winter and I think that's priceless.
Lowlight-extreme cold with no snow or wintery weather far too many times.

Highlight: Icemaggedon 2013 (sleet storm for me.) I have never seen one storm put that much sleet on the ground. It was ALMOST list a snow storm ( until you walked outside slipping on what you thought was a snow drift, but turning out to be sleet instead. ).
Low light: The lack of rain here including the waste of cold air in January. Also another year with out a good snow storm ( at least 4-6 inches).
Overall: It was a pretty good winter compared to the last 2 years, and that 20:1 snow ratio was a great surprise (if only we could have had a little more qpf), I might never see a snow ratio like that this far south again.

Highlight: The number of freezes and the ice event we had in Jan, although small. With my new weather station it made this winter very exciting.
Lowlight: With about 6 different times we were on the verge of a winter weather event and only had one instance that was significant in any way. Never had we had this much cold air in my lifetime go to waste.
Overall: I would take this winter again. Lots of cold air, but next time im sure we would have better luck with frozen precip.

I totally agree! I told Ntxw this, and I will say it again. I have really enjoyed following the Texas winter weather thread from you all out there. You guys are a great group of knowledgable weather junkies who also have fun on the forums as well. I am really looking forward to the upcoming hurricane season and the discussions coming up among us all.

Let's see, the Heat Miser side of me says:
Highlight: Reaching 80F on February 18th
Lowlight: Every other day this winter
And the Snow Miser side of me says:
Highlight: Seeing small snowflakes/graupel in Houston in January.

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
One thing about this winter is it mostly stayed north of I-20. I live just south of I-20 and we really did not get anything much during any of the ice/sleet events. The December ice storm put a nice glaze on our trees but other than that our streets were fine. Even this last sleet event a week ago missed me and hit the Ellis County area.
Talking about the Dallas area of course. I know Houston received several winter events.

Icemaggedon was a "highlight"... but mainly since my 'hood saw much more sleet than ice (I can happily do without the latter).
Waking up in February to 16 degrees and blowing snow was a rarity for DFW and neat to see. I can't recall temps that low with snow falling in a long, long... long time.
We rarely see the words "ice" and "fog" put together in a forecast sentence but it happened several times this winter.
I would've traded it all for abundant rainfall though.

Highlight-The above. It has been a dream of mine as an admin for the Winter weather community to come together on this site. It definitely has this year.
Highlight weatherwise-Snow, ice and sleet in one event here at my house. Overall, a REAL WINTER, something I haven't seen in Houston in many years.
Lowlight-The above-DROUGHT, DROUGHT, DROUGHT. I HAVE COME TO DESPISE THAT WORD!!

Looks like you Texans are writing winter's 13-14 obituary. Can I start singing ding-dong winter is dead yet?.....MGC

Highlight for me was the record number of "ice" days/delays we had this year for work/school. I think it was five (lost count).
Lowlight was the relatively low measley amount of precipation that fell from each event. Water equivalent ranged from 100ths of a inch to maybe a tenth, give or take.

Nope, not yet. More to come, but nothing like we have seen previously. Maybe one or two more freezes North and probably our last 30s in SE TX tonight so you are close.
