Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)

Still coming down pretty good here in South Austin east of Ben White/I-35. The changeover took a little longer here. Don't know if we'll get an inch or not. Its trying to train but its moving off to the east too fast. Very pretty though for the last hour or so.

Then San Angelo NWS says that the area to the west is the last batch. I wish it would slow down some and fill in.

what about that band forming south of Lubbock? also, i think the area between Brownwood and San Angelo may fill in with light snow, at least appears to be doing so.

yeah i saw that, looks good, needs to continue to build. The Low is entering the area where it should start to build as it digs in. This is good. Should continue.


Also, within the past few minutes, we have now changed over to light flurries in Nacogdoches

Honestly, after the snowmageddon event in Dallas, driving into it and all that drama, i wasn't as excited for this event while at school, but man the snow is always beautiful, and peaceful to watch. Enjoy it while it lasts peeps

The band seems to be holding together so far. It's got about 2 hours to go through. *crosses fingers* finally could be snow for all of San Antonio if it holds together.

I hope it does too for your friends, but the western side of it is starting to break up on radar with gaps. Hopefully it's just a minor thing.

I was hoping to see this thing build more convection as it works its way east.. Maybe later this evening?? So far I dont see how east texas is going to get the accumlations the NWS forecasted

FYI.. There looks to be a pretty nasty cell between Brenham and Conroe right now..

Snow is coming down with much bigger flakes and heavier here now.... I'm concerned about the ULL wrapping up in the dry air SW of Texas right now though. Maybe some of that moisture from CAli can "seep" into and help it deepen . Is it possible that the low will slow down as the low approaches California, or am i just being too optimistic? LOL

I have to admit guys --- I have never seen a winter like this here in the southern DFW area..... not by a long shot. Not necessarilly brutal cold -- but the winter precip events - with so many being snow instead of ice.

Strange winter indeed. Brutal cold at times (13 at DFW was the coldest reading since 1997?). Record breaking snowfall another day. Yet, the two never seemed to meet up. Our snow events were all "warm" for the most part. Very few days with road problems aside from the slush on 2/11. Also didn't see much sleet or ice, which we would have in spades during the colder winters of the 80's. El Nino brought us several powerful, deep systems that were all snow.

Having said that, I'm interested in the final average temp. for this winter. It's gotta be one of our coldest in some time. We've been below average almost all winter aside from that brief late January "thaw."

Just started mixing to sleet here Yankeegirl. Won't be long. Magnolia and Conroe reporting snow now.

Still heavy snow in Nac, temps at 33.8F expected to continue. Now we need some back building.

Unless the southern end of the radar starts filling in, it looks to me like by the time temps are low enough for snow around here, the moisture may be gone (or not much left). Currently sitting at 42° - rained lightly, briefly, a short time ago... just cloudy now.

I know the whole system is moving southeast, but the snow in Central TX looks like it's moving more east than southeast.

I hope I'm wrong, though.

Yea, not looking good for southeast texas.. on the last couple of frames though, it does look like that freeze line is trying to dive more SE now... but like you said.. that precip is moving east fast.. gonna need some more precip. to fill in on the SW side of the system or its gonna be a blank for SE Texas.. I would like it to slow down a bit.. I dont get off until 5 and I was planning a trip up to the lakes, but even if it does snow up there, it looks like itll be almost through by then.. Forecast said it would snow into the evening hours and end around midnight..

Well, technically, I'm in southern Hardin County, less than 2 miles away from the Jefferson County line... so I'm only 3 counties away from snow and 2 away from a mix.
Like that matters. It's still not here.

I'm thinking I should probably be doing something more productive right about now... staring at the radar isn't doing me any good. lol
