Ntxw, when do you think our drought will end? I don't see an end in sight and I hate Texas droughts with a passion!!

An active severe weather season would help. But honestly I don't see it ending anytime soon they tend to come in cycles and this appears to be a new one. It would probably take many hits for Texas (tropical storms) to end the drought, but that's risky. You know what they say, all drought ends in floods!

I certainly don't see anything to indicate a wet pattern across Texas.

Yeah it seems like Texas goes through this pattern every few years. Lots of rain/flooding for a while and then little, if any rain for a few months. Unfortunately it looks like we are heading back into a long, bad drought. Any signs of hope with a possible el nino next winter?

I don't know how accurate the CFS seasonal forecasts are ... but the latest ones show above normal temps and below normal precip for much of Texas for the spring into mid summer (through July).

lol wxman57. Well, I just want to say that I'm glad you spent so much time in the winter forum this year. Thanks for all your input and you know that we'll expect you back next winter as well.

I am in no way insinuating that we could have snow out of this next system heading our way. However, just to show how dynamic this system is, look at all the Winter-related Advisories/Watches/Warnings there are in California. http://nws.noaa.gov/ It hasn't snowed in downtown San Francisco since Feb 1976 & they are saying that that might happen as the system passes there. To say the least, we will likely get walloped by a line of Severe Thunderstorms, developing in the afternoon Sunday, ahead of the dryline, similar to today but more intense.

Sunday's system definitely looks stronger, but the GFS tracks it a good bit farther north than today's system. May keep the really severe storms up in OK and KS and eastward.

This past winter is one I will never forget. I saw freezing rain, sleet, and snow and the worst advective freeze in Houston since probably 1989.

I noticed today a lot of the queen palms are bronzed and some are totally fried. It looks much more widespread than last year. I don't care to see another winter as cold as this one for at least another 20+ years.

Not so fast wxman57, European is at it again developing a dynamic cold core upper level low moving across the northern half of the state next weekend. With the NAO forecast to go neutral to slightly negative, this system should have a better chance of developing into a deeper/colder system moving further south than the one coming through early next week.

Not so fast wxman57, European is at it again developing a dynamic cold core upper level low moving across the northern half of the state next weekend. With the NAO forecast to go neutral to slightly negative, this system should have a better chance of developing into a deeper/colder system moving further south than the one coming through early next week.

Yes, I see it. That's the day of my big trap shooting tournament. We shoot from 1pm-4:30pm on the 5th. Current Euro suggest some snow possible for the northern Panhandle of TX into the OK Panhandle. Maybe even some light wrap-around snow down to the Red River. Question is, just how cold will the air be at the surface and aloft? Snow line is way up north now, not like early in February when it extended all the way south to Dallas.

I'm debating planting my tomatoes in the garden tomorrow. The 12Z GFS shows a nice cold spell 10 days out for DFW. Do the other models support this?

European is doing it again after backing off for a few runs. Now closer to the medium ranged, with a deep, cold core upper low in Texas

And look at this forecast for Laredo, TX! First of it's kind I've seen anywhere in the country this year!

Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100. South wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Summer is just around the corner!

Me thinks Winter is done in SE TX. We had a high of 80f yesterday and are already at 79f today. Trees and plants that survived are budding and the allergies are KILLER right now. I'll keep checking back here, but it may be time to move over to the US Weather forum threads, at least for some of us.

Neither the 12Z (yesterday) or the 00Z overnight European suggests any winter weather in Texas for the next 10 days. Move along, everyone, nothing to see here. Neither the Euro nor the GFS indicates any sub-freezing temps in the Dallas area. Leave your tomato plants alone. Winter is over...
