12Z GFS only indicates a light freeze for the Dallas area on the 27th now with low-mid 40s for lows in Houston. Certainly no winter precip threat up in Dallas. Nothing out of the ordinary in Texas. Beautiful 77 degrees as of noon in Houston, maybe our firs 80 degree day of 2011!

Cold shot will come next weekend, I think we see a freeze N. side of H-town just like the Euro suggests...mid 20s possible Dallas.

Meteorologists at the Portastorm Weather Center have packed up their snow measuring equipment for the season and have tuned up their rain gauges.

I'm telling ya, winter is over for Texas south of Temple/Killeen. A few freezes still? Yes, definitely. Major freezes or snow/sleet/freezing precip? Nah. Ain't gonna happen.

I miss the days when the cracked ..err I mean crack team of meteorologists at the PWC would stay until April with their snow measuring equipment. Where are those cloudy grey sky induced Grey Goose days?

DFW finally overtook 80 today (81 atm). Houston is still right on the edge for Wxman! Had to use the A/C in the car today after trying not to, starting sweating, for the first time in awhile. I'm tired of this heat already, is summer over yet?!

Head to Galveston... It's more like San Fran today...

Left my house at 2 pm with sunny skies and 80 degree temp... Got to Galveston around 3:00PM to pick up a friend and it was 59 with a 10-20 mph wind.. It felt way colder, even kind of nasty with the fog and mist rolling in... Should not have wore shorts.. I don't know what I was thinking..

It reminded me of the days when I worked in Sacramento and drove into San Fran in the summer...

Those cold shelf waters are doing the trick... Had to turn off my AC about 20 minutes before I got to Galveston..

Just like California...beach water temp 55F. Watch the marine layer come in overnight...

Portastorm...can I interest you in some Arizona swampland? :D

If memory serves correct, back in January, I seem to remember someone well respected on this board talking about how La Nina was going to assert itself and that winter was all but over in Texas.

Ask Jerry Jones about how all of that went!

82.7 on my Davis Vantage Vue---a little over exposure on the radiation shield.

I don't see that cold air making it into Texas, I expect it to be swept off to the east before it reaches the Red River. Spring will be in full force by 5th or 6th of march. I will be doing my spring cleanup of the fireplace this weekend and start the early spring cleaning next week as well have 70's all but maybe Thursday when high's will only reach the mid 60's.

It was a wonderful winter, now bring on El Nino :sun: .

Euro now completely backing off as far as next week's cold air. GFS and Canadian, too. They all rebuild that deep trof off the west coast with a ridge over Texas. Cold air in Canada just moves off to the east across the Great lakes. That's what would be expected with the pattern.

The GFS, which was forecasting lows in the low 40s for us next Fri/Sat is now forecasting lows in the 60s and highs in the upper 70s:

The pattern below would suggest no cold air here in Texas:

The current pattern will carry us into March so continue to expect the warmer than average temps with limited rain chances for NTX. Pattern may change again by mid march and that will allow for a few cold fronts to move south, but this will be a Severe weather maker across the mid section of the country all the way down into NTX.

Love TX weather, we go from high's in the teens to higs in the low 80's all in 18 day span. :double: ..

Personally, I have a hard time keeping my core body temperature warm if the temperature is much below 80 deg. And my main activity is cycling, so I'd rather not have to wear a bundle up in ski socks, tights, 2-3 layers on top, a hat and full-finger winter gloves for a 3-5 hour bike ride. Remember, when you're biking at 20 mph you have a constant wind of 20-30 mph hitting you. That gets you cold REAL FAST. If I could, I'd bike 7 days a week for 1-3 hours a day. Can't do that this time of year as it's just too cold. Give me a nice, warm 90 deg day so I can ride in shorts and a sleeveless jersey. Or I can ride in the evening (after dark) when it's in the 80s and not get cold. I suppose if you're not spending 3-5 hours at a time with a 20-30 mph wind blowing on you then cold weather isn't TOO bad.

The only good that cold weather serves is if it snows. If it's not snowing, then get out of here, cold weather! ;-)

So do I - cold at night for sleeping - AC blasting or windows open in winter. But not cold while biking.
