Maybe... sure didn't expect it..

Just asking, how can you get a lake effect flurry off of such a small lake. If that is the case, why don't they get lake effect flurries off of Lake Pontchartrain to the north of New Orleans?? Just curious.[/quote]

There was some lake effect snow in the rio grande valley last week..

Here you go...

March 21 or March 22 officially I think...I remember last year the mid march snow...which came after a warm up.

It's going to be extremely tough to get it cold down here anytime soon. That tanking PNA will spread a lot of pacific air into the lower 48 over the foreseeable future. The good news is that it should increase our chances for much needed rain around here, if we can get the NAO negative as well.

AN ALL TIME RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 28 DEGREES BELOW ZERO WAS SET
AT BARTLESVILLE OKLAHOMA THIS MORNING AT 7:19 AM. THE PREVIOUS ALL
TIME RECORD LOW WAS 25 BELOW ZERO JANUARY 22ND 1930. THIS SMASHES
THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR THIS DATE OF 13 BELOW ZERO SET IN 1929.

THIS ALSO SETS THE ALL TIME RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE STATE OF
OKLAHOMA. THE PREVIOUS RECORD LOW WAS 27 DEGREES BELOW ZERO SET AT
VINITA, OK IN 1905 AND AT WATTS, OK IN 1930.

What an utterly remarkable event in a La Nina winter that was supposed to be dry and mild.

For Oklahoma to record its all-time low of -28 degrees this year...well, it leaves me almost speechless. :double:

We have had two back-to-back winters in the Southern Great Plains that will be remembered and talked about for years and years to come.

I think it goes without saying that the winters of 2009-10 and 2010-11 are now officially in the hallowed club of memorable winters like 1976-77, Feb. 1978, Dec. 1983, Dec. 1989, and Feb. 1996.

And who knows...while winter is taking a siesta for the next several days, who knows what March will bring?

Wow....

Well, we certainly didn't get to the mid-40s as forecast! It was below freezing here most of the day, hitting 32 for a few hours, and briefly up to 33, then back down. It was supposed to be mostly sunny today, but we saw very little sun. It did finally come out for a little while, though. It just didn't really warm up when it did.

Crazy cold winter!!

Yeah, I can hardly remember any days where we never got out of the 30's, let alone above freezing. That is extremely rare and it happened this winter and almost happened twice. A really really cold snap down here is highs in the upper 30's or lower 40's. A really rare event is staying below freezing. We had both this winter.

Upon further review, Oklahoma's new all-time low temperature record is...

31 below zero!!!! :cold: :cold: :cold: :cold: :double:

Mesonet site at Nowata, Okla. set the record earlier today according to OKC NWS.

"Nowata broke the all-time low record for Oklahoma, falling to -31 degrees."

Are the new models still showing something in the 10 day period? Gotta talk about something, right?

Hints of warming off the South American coast? That's where it usually starts. Nothing big, but maybe something to look at for next winter
