IMO, that map is very possible considerent such a violent pattern change is going to be taking place. Tanking -AO, +PNA ridge shooting up into NW Canada and Alaska, this is the biggest pattern change I've seen in years. Going from the warmest Jan on record to this is just crazy, and you don't see that very often.

Local mets not really looking past the Monday event other than to mention several sw passing the south side of the trough and possibly bringing some snow our way on several occasions. Temps on the NWS site really do not reflect the cold models are forecasting as of yet. Saturday showing high of 47 degrees.

I almost can't look anymore, the mere mention of teens for Houston almost makes me sick. My backyard would be totaled. A lot of garden shops around town are about to file some major insurance claims too.
I still don't understand how some people hope these models runs verify - for what? To see some number verify on your computer screen in the comfort of your cozy home while some people outside practically (or literally) freeze to death - that's just twisted IMHO. Oh well, hope you guys enjoy it.

I don't HOPE that teens verify...what I do HOPE verifies is some snow! For all I care it could be 32.4 degrees at the coldest...but as long as we get some snow I will be fine. I can't control the weather though...so if the teens do come to town, it is beyond our control. It is not like we are purposely going to pull out the ole' weather machine and make it 11 degrees so that plants and people die. Whatever happens, happens. It is all up to mother nature.jschlitz wrote:I almost can't look anymore, the mere mention of teens for Houston almost makes me sick. My backyard would be totaled. And anyway, is wishing for some cold weather really all that bad? I understand it could be harmful to those who have no shelter from the cold, but, should I feel guilty for their misfortunes? I give to charity, I help those who need help, but I don't think its "twisted" if someone really did want the teens, IMHO.

yeah good points you make. In reality though, I think that I would be a little too cold with teens. I would have to probably wear REAL winter clothing and being outside during the morning or at night would not feel very good at all. Also, all the palm trees in my backyard would be severly damaged or killed. BUT if they did happen, I would realize that I have no control over them and would just let what is, be. Snow would make up for any severe freeze we would have also. AND snow can actually help protect plants from extreme freezes.Tyler wrote:And anyway, is wishing for some cold weather really all that bad? I think the perfect scenario would be a high of 33 and a low of 30 with a good 3" of snow that lasted two days (Sat. and Sun.), but was gone by Monday.jschlitz wrote:Sorry guys if I went a little too far, and you're right it is mother nature who is in control. I just saw the maps and lost my head I suppose, and for that I apologize. I think it would be a nice treat to see snow, as long as we stay at 28 or above then I'm on board

You guys are funny!
If someone's taking orders, I'd like my snow on Monday or Tuesday or maybe Monday AND Tuesday ... don't ruin the weekend.
I'm with y'all about teens and stuff. That's crazy cold for the South and I had enough of that growing up in Ohio. I'm ordering 28-30 degrees and precip. And yes, I want fries with that!
