Texas Winter 2010-2011

Intrested in a Porta specific report as Austin got some light snow and decent amounts of accumulative ice as well and obviously causing major problems for the Austin morning commute.

EDIT: Am think the activity intensifying from Graham to Mineral Wells w of Stephenville will be the last accumulating snowfall band for DFW(1-2") other than light snow/flurries.

Sorry for the delay ... I had the audacity of sleeping a few hours.

Austin report ... about one-half inch of ice and on top of that about one inch of snow. It has stopped snowing here. As you might imagine, the roads/bridges are awful. All schools and state businesses closed. Some fatal wrecks also on I-35 during the overnight due to the ice, sadly.

But!!!!!! this is what you have been waiting on all winter,,,

Just looked at the Weather Channel's national temperature map... Outside of one city in Maine, the coldest temps are El Paso at 4F and Amarillo at 5F.

Probably won't see that again for awhile.

Just because you can go 45 doesn't mean you should. I think I can get to work but I'm going to take vacation and work from home. About 30% of those people actually need to be on the roads - ice and snow a bad mix but not as bad as 4x4 and low IQ. Should have forecast a testosterone front because there is a heavy band of it out there. Some dude with a range rover who is usually late to work will probably be 2 hours early this morning so he can tell everybody how it wasnt that bad.

6AM UPDATE: 2-4" From Fort Worth to Denton and Weatherford atm with 3-6" Along and east of I-35. Currently in the Metroplex as of 6am light snow is still persisting across DFW with visibilities around 3 miles from FTW Meacham-Dallas probably not causing any additonal accum 1/2 if anything.
The outlook through 8am includes a WSW and a potential for a heavier band with accum up to 1-2" wherever it treks across NTX. At the moment, it is setting up from Bowie-Mineral Wells-Stephenville line. The heaviest precip with 1-2" snowfall per hr rates is focused from Jacksboro s to Breckenridge and just w of Stephenville/Comanche. Though the heavier cells appear to be headin NNE the whole line is shifting straight east. Behind the heavier band is still a batch of lighter-steady precip which could drop another 1 inch if it holds together.

so with all of this going on I have a question. So how often does all this happen in Texas? I am 29 and I have never seen it snow so much in a 2 year time frame or be this cold. I feel that this is something wierd going on all over the world with weather. Some people say its globel warmming but that only cause's a 4 percent increase in moisture from what I have heard. I dont beleave in globel warmming I think something more,,,,,strange is going on,,any comments on that??

Maybe but you're probably too young to have a large enough sample size. I think the late 19th century was bad and I remember more events in the late 70's but I was a kids and they probably made a big impression. I'm sure the mets and historians could offer insight.

I remember the '73 event. Also snowed in Jan of that year. I was living in Spring Branch and going to Spring Oaks Jr High. called off school the 1st time, didn't the second time. So we skipped school, got caught and had Saturday detention. Then guess what it did that Saturday while in detention?

If this band holds together like it has it will be more than an inch more like 1-2". Esp for Jacksboro,Mineral Wells,Decatur, and Weatherford. Expect snow intensity to pick up along I-35 westward from 7am-8am.

I am just tired of the Al gores going crazy about the weather, when the weather pattern fluctuates and blame it on Global warming...yes the planet is warming some...but we have had crazy weather in the past and we will continue to do so.

pete delkus just mentioned the chance of snow DURING the super bowl on sunday that txagwxman mentioned earlier.
Said its preliminary right now but could be snow,sleet, and rain and plunging temperatures.

Fun for the people who paid 200+ to stand outside.

Ok no one has to respond. But im really stressing snow totals are begining to pile up on the west side of the metro and west of I-35 atm and spreading east. This will be our best shot for significant accumulations since last night around midnight as returns are showing heavy snow in about 8 counties right now beginning to become more widespread and strengthen. ATM an additional inch at least looks imminent for FTW westward through 8am.

EDIT: Not trying to be bullish but im tired of hearing all the amateurs go on and on about all the "surprises" from last night and this morning's system.
