That's a good question! I'm not able to find a period at least going back to 2000. Maybe Jan/Feb 1978 did but it's tougher to dig for data that far back in detail.

Some areas in western travis county and nw hays county have dropped 1-4 degrees in 30 minutes with light precip

It's bouncing between 34 and 35 here on both gauges.

:uarrow: Will almost certainly be under an advisory in the morning if freezing drizzle/freezing rain develop overnight as expected.

Moderate to occasionally heavy snow again in Denison. We're over 2-inches now.

It's already developing. Us southerners are already discussing it.

The advisory goes til 6pm Saturday for the freezing drizzle already. They had said in the AFD even if the snow busted it would just be more notice for the freezing drizzle which everyone was more concerned about anyway.

As meteorologists considering the impact of severe weather conditions (like snowfall) can be difficult for a given area. The arbitrary guidelines up in the D-FW area clearly need to be examined. I can't imagine how having another inch of snow would have made driving that much worse. Previous conditions have to be considered - like has it been sub-freezing leading up to event, cooling the roads down to where a couple inches of snow could cause major issues? Every event is different, a one-size-fits-all snow amount won't fit all events.

OK, now that you've had your winter fun up there can I have some warm air back over Houston? A high in the low 40s is nearly 20 degrees below normal.

I guess it must be freezing rain out in the Hill Country because we just got word that my son's baseball tournament games today in Fredericksburg have been cancelled.
i don't see any freezing rain in fredricksburg atm but it is 28-29 right now. Could be just a precaution for what may/may not materialize later in the hillco
I didn't either per radar but the airport there (thanks downsouthman1) is reporting light drizzle and 31. And per your other note about some temps dropping in western areas of the Austin metro, I believe it. A quick scan of the LCRA hydromet page shows temps from Driftwood to Dripping Springs to Lakeway dropping several degrees in the last hour.
:uarrow:
I was wondering if scenic SW Austin was getting in on any of the action of this latest freezing drizzle band(?).

Had to take a trip to Duncanville an hour or so ago, and while it looks like we received the same amount of snow, the roads were not bad at all. Just mainly wet with a little bit of slush.

But here in Cedar Hill (at least earlier) everything was sticking to the roads, and overall the road situation seemed worse here. It's only a matter of 5 miles or so. I found that kinda strange.

Exactly this came into question after last January in Alabama too... the forecast had been for a dusting-inch... would the outcome have been any different than the 1-1.5 inches that fell? I doubt it...

Yes the flakes are big and fat again. Alliance was at 3 inches awhile ago, surely they are closing in on 4-5

Looking at Weather Underground pws, everything east of I35 in Austin area is currently 33 or below (mostly 32 or below) while west of I35 it's still 34-36.

Still dry east of 35.

Eta: still snowing in Lewisville.
