Most school districts are dismissing at noon and closing for tomorrow according to local news.

Good. Rockwall isn't closing early today. But my son has 2 off periods and is home now, so told him he doesn't have to go back. My wife teaches and has to drive across Ray Hubbard to the Rowlett side. Hopefully it's not too icy.

No word here in Keller, but they usually wait a long time to dismiss early.

Storm Report at Tecumseh, OK of 1.5 inches of Sleet measured. I haven't measured the Sleet, but it's around 1.5 inches as well.

NWS just extended the WWA as far south as Bexar County (San Antonio area)...tonight should be interesting.

NWS-Norman has adjusted the forecast lower, but I don't think we're going to get above 15 today

Wave 2 looks really nasty, & big.

Monday's 12Z GFS had Houston's non temp today at 80. Yesterday's 12Z run dropped it to 60. It's actually 49 with light rain at noon today. It hasn't changed in 30+ years - models can't handle shallow cold air moving south across Texas. My office temperature is up to 78 degrees with my little desktop space heater helping. Hoping to retire that little heater in March (until next winter).

The prediction of a high of 36 has gotten dropped to 32. It’s 29 right now in my area. I’ll be more surprised if temperatures rise to 32 rather than if it drops to 25 by 6PM.
Surprisingly, there’s a feeling of indifference around here because the “winter weather” we got 2 weeks ago wasn’t as bad as it was predicted to be.

Definitely still looking like a pretty low-end event QPF-wise, but even .10 of ice can be a real problem. Just looked at the models, and none scream ice storm for DFW IMO. But, still slick.

I just hope we get enough that it forces them to cancel school and work tomorrow. I think we will. I hate driving on ice.

???? Most all models going with 0.15-0.40 inch QPF with embedded potential convective elements….1/4 inch is definition of ice Storm so not sure what models you’re looking at

Not a single model had more than 0.02" of ice for Dallas thru 18z Wed. In fact, 0.07" have fallen so far so you could say it is overperforming.

Part of the reason for that is there tends to be a wide temp difference in Bexar County at times (sometimes 3-4 degrees due to county size in general and event itself obviously) during these freezing rain events (like the early feb ice one). If you were basically south of the airport it was pretty much a non-event here.

Temps today across most of the state have definitely been colder than forecast no doubt and so I think most people who don't pay close attention to the weather as we do here were definitely caught off guard by just the cold let alone the frozen precip associated with it. Those phone weather apps that had temps much warmer just one day ago more than likely got a few "what the hell" comments today.

I think it will, driving back from site visit for my company from Allen to Fort Worth was really slick all the way home. Grapevine was a mess with heavy freezing rain going at the time. Surface streets in Keller were also getting slick.

Would I be correct to assume that being on, or north of, the escarpment has something to do with the temperature difference as well?

My wife was in the other room earlier and asked if I heard that thunder… I had to explain it was the chili I had for lunch and not thunder! Does that count? :P
