The current NWS forecast for the Orlando area Tuesday morning is now 25-26F. The 12z GFS MOS is even colder, calling for 24F at MCO on Tuesday morning. If these numbers play out, then Tuesday morning will be the coldest in Orlando since January 9th, 2002 when the low at MCO fell to 25F**.

Elsewhere in Florida, the coldest temperatures currently forecast by the NWS for this event are:

Ocala = 21F
Brooksville = 21F
Lake City = 20F
Jacksonville = 26F
Tallahassee = 23F
Daytona Beach = 26F
Tampa = 29F
Melbourne = 28F
Fort Myers = 33F
West Palm Beach = 31F
Miami = 36F
Key West = 50F

**If the temperature doesn't fall below 27F though, then it will only be the coldest since this past January

Not to mention the wild chill, which should be around 15. Pretty insane.

a few days ago my lowest temp predicted by the nws was 38. now it's 29. i hate the cold and hope it relents soon. on a side note it looks like the rather extreme temps forecast by the euro early on are on the verge of verifying.

Growing up in florida, i just do not remember such violent winters as we have seen this season and last season. Last season I thought the strong el nino was the cause but how can this season be explained? Not only has it gotten very cold, but the blustery conditions that push deep into florida from these arctic fronts is unbelievable. Typically when it freezes, there is not much wind and arctic high pressure settles in. I moved to south Florida to find warmer winters but I am wondering if I need to move further south? 8-)

So Sam's Club had strawberries at $10 for two pounds, and Tom Thumb didn't have any strawberries at all.

I guess I can thank this deep freeze can't I?

Its obvious we are entering a new 30 year global cooling cycle.lol. There has not been a single year in florida history with 4 snow events except this year. The winters are becoming harsher. Anyone agree?

Blame it on the strong negative Arctic Oscillation:

We had some pretty cold episodes back in the 80s. The freezes of 1983, 1985 and 1989 are legendary and we haven't gotten that close to those. January 2010 was the closest we got and even then Miami didn't reach freezing like in each of those years in the 80s. We'll see how the rest of the winter shakes out.

I remember the winters of 1994-96 as the coldest since I've been in Fla since '94. 1996 was unbelievably cold and prolonged where Broward County saw lower 20s several times! Only 2010 has come close to that winter down here, and the ones in the 80s I've heard were cold as nuts, and of course 1977 when it snowed in Miami.

How can it snow in miami? Seems impossible. I think this winter may have a surprise in march or late february.Florida may probably see another rare snow this winter. January thaw lol.

"gulf effect" rain showers are developing and pushing onshore amid a very gusty northwest wind. it feels more like a november gale on lake erie than florida. the gulf effect is pretty impressive considering that the gulf waters are already very cold. despite that we must have some pretty respectable lapse rates...a testament to just how chilly this incoming air mass is.

No snow or rain in citrus/hernando county as of yet like some of the models had showed. I've had a few rain showers so far.

It is 30.7 degrees currently at my home location in North Jax. My oh my the arctic air express in in full force now and an extremely cold 72 hour period across the peninsula has commenced. Only expecting a high temp today of barely over 40 degrees with extremely brisk NW winds. Look for several record low temperatures to occur the next two mornings across the peninsula. Here in the north area.of Jax, expecting a low temp right at 20 degrees, possibly a degree or two lower. Stay warm folks!!!!!

The only hope that we in the Orlando area is that MOS forecast lows across central gulf coast states busted big time last night, so hopefully that will be the same case for our area tomorrow morning, specially if winds stay up during the night.
