I haven’t really been impressed with El Niños lately. Hopefully this one will be better.

Hope it goes better than the last one here when we got Pacific air all winter and the infamous snow holes...

Literally my worst winter here so far has been El Nino

Say what you want about La Nina but it has had a real snow every year. Like this winter technically we've had our snowfall average even if somehow nothing else happens

I’d be fine with them if we at least got some rain, but I don’t recall them even doing much of that lately. La Niñas are fun because they can produce extremes, which is my kinda weather except for extreme droughts lol

Winter is not over, it's far from over in fact, because look what is showing up on the Ensembles:

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Never say Never with weather! Because ANYTHING is possible!

If mjo goes strong into phase 2-3, that could give us one last opportunity. End of February into March typically needs alot more things to line up for us. A -epo would give us our best chance imo.

I am over all the storms east of us. Like literally there's been so much snow over there

It's definitely been the worst part of this winter and I still don't see it changing anytime soon

Can we be done with sleet and freezing rain? In Sherman, there's still sleet base on the ground on the north side of taller buildings.

Sickening.

Yup I saw that too the cold east of here has definitely been historic. No doubt about that

It's been an Eastern US winter for sure and I still don't see that changing much the next couple weeks

It won't take too much more before we have to shift our last hopes of winter to the Spring Thread...

Maybe this will be the year it finally snows in March or even April  there's gonna be something else up here eventually

It's been years

I'm amazed we have had more snow than Amarillo! I didn't think that was possible haha

There's been a lot of impossible things this winter here though. Kind of amazed we have our average snowfall

Tulsa doesn’t really seem like a good place to live for a weather enthusiast. You never really hear about anything memorable happening there, not even tornadoes. The eastern part of OK seems like a dead zone in general for the most part.

Haha yeah other than the derecho a few summers ago there hasn't been anything notable(although that derecho was about the worst thing I've ever seen even growing up in Dixie alley more like the hurricanes I remember 20-30 years ago). The winter storms have otherwise honestly been the most impactful events each year haha

Schools closed a week several times

But personally I've seen enough severe weather from Alabama and Dallas. Don't really miss it. I got someone the other day when I told them I was in Alabama in April 2011. It gets a reaction of disbelief because there were multiple tornadoes that month that killed more than Moore and El Reno ever has

Said we would see 80's a week ago and man here they come. 81 already outside. Mid 80's next week. Agree with Bubba in that the Spring thread sure does make sense when you step outside in parts of Texas today.

We make it to V day with nothing on the horizon and I would say it’s a safe bet winter is done.

Lots of cold air building through out all of canada on the ensembles, again i wouldnt plant my garden yet, ensembles today have trended toward another dip in the AO again, im staying with my belief that its going to turn cold again

I'm still watching late month as a possibility for one final shot of colder air relative to averages but because of climatology as previously mentioned it would have to be an overachiever to deliver.what everyone wants. Need to watch that AO trend. WPO is going to be there.

I’m with you. I’ve seen enough severe weather. You replace enough roofs, totaled cars and downed fences it gets old. Unless it’s a high risk, you won’t find me on the board. I saw the Jarrell tornado up close and it’s something I’d not want to see again. I remember thinking “God help who ever is under that.”

Incidentally, I found if you want the best place for all types of weather the winner was…..Iowa. Severe weather, decent rain, snows regularly and an occasional blizzard. I did a whole spreadsheet just as an exercise in futility.

Yup plenty of cold up there showing up down the road (-WPO) but without enough of a -AO we may just get a little tease from it.

I'm actually a bit more convinced we're going to see some "early" spring type severe weather in Texas before any big cold shot but perhaps the old winter lore of severe weather followed by cold/snow will come true again in the south.

What’s up with the corn fields during the summer in Iowa producing insane dew points and heat indexes? What’s the science behind that? At least I heard it was from corn fields lol
