Umm, I swear I just heard thunder. Thundersleet!? Unless there was a wreck down the street which is totally possible. Roads are getting horrible. Sleet is coming so fast it can't melt on the roads which are trying to hold onto whatever heat they can. Been 25 all day, not going to work for long. Too bad it is about to get dark!

It is clearly not moving south anymore. Heaviest ban I have seen all day on Base Radar also appearing to stay with us for some time now. IMO

Can anyone else confirm this?
I think it is still moving south, as a whole. However, the bands are moving west to east. So do you think just the band is not moving south or the entire shield of precip has stopped moving south?

Roads are completely white and covered with sleet now this is very dangerous to travel on tonight! Have started seeing some large sleet pellets here too they really sting! Radar suggests we still have more coming! Still hopeful this changes to snow the nearest weather bug is showing 23 degrees on my phone!

I don't think so. We are in the perfect spot for this band if it indeed is stopping a southern movement. Right in the middle.
We'll be getting this for a while.

Yeah for once EBR and Ascension might be right in the correct spot.

As long as that moisture is still refilling over south central Texas…I would not be worried.
I still don't see it moving south. The moisture might be tapped out to a degree along the coast, but I don't think it will cut us off.

Well well well the dry slot winners of the day Lafayette and Baton Rouge have found themselves in the perfect position for this band to set up! Interestingly enough even we seem to have transitioned back to a freezing rain/sleet mix. I don't think we'll get much in the way of snow at this point unfortunately but maybe if this band continues over us it will transition now that it's getting dark. There's no way I'm getting out on the roads tonight.

Yes, I was out side and thought I heard thunder. Based on radar I saw on WAFB there was a very heavy convective band with that heaviest sleet, so not out of the question.

I give up. LOL. Nothing more from me for rest of the day. Maybe moisture has tapped out. Seems to lessen each frame.

The snow just won't quite make it. Not going to complain, this ended up a lot better than I thought when I woke up this morning. I notice the snow line actually forms a bubble up and around the city of Baton Rouge. Is that a coincidence or because of the warmth of the city? I wouldn't think the warmth of a city would affect upper air layers, though. Or is it because of more exactly radar data?
