Satellite and 500 map to me doesn't show the upper low moving northeast yet, still pretty much due east...I assume the longer it does that, the better for snow in TX?

37 IMBY here in Katy, just saw a couple of light snow flurries ( obviously wont accumulate ) looking out my bed room window, that certainly wasn’t something that even the short range guidanxe was suggesting

It can already kick. The cold air is in place.

I'm really hoping we somehow have more sleet than freezing rain here. If power goes out and the pool pump stops working, that's not going to be fun going out and draining the equipment in the elements. I'm on a hospital grid and we hardly ever have our power go out, but if we end up with a lotting of freezing rain, all bets are off.

HGX at my house has .1 to .3 ice followed by up to 0.1 ice. I am going the under on 0.3" ice, the freezing line gets here sooner than was modelled earlier but so does the backside of the precip. I think NWS forecast is leaning worst likely solution, 0.3 or 0.4" of ice is a big deal but the more likely 0.1 to 0.2" of ice will melt/sublimate evaporate enough before the big Sunday night/Monday morning freeze is timed just right to wreck anyone trying to go to church tomorrow morning. I'm going this evening to avoid what I suspect will be unsafe driving tomorrow morning. NWS has a tenth more total ice for Tomball, where I worked for a year, the untreated roads will definitely mean dangerous driving on untreated surface streets. Worst case scenarios of .3 or .4 inches from HGX would probably leave just enough moisture on shaded suburban/exurban roads to be a danger for the Monday commute. Its foolish to discount the reasonable worst case scenarios (and HGX has been adding 'reasonable' to worst case scenario in recent discos).

Hooks Airport reporting thunderstorm with heavy rain. Heavy rain has ended here, a bit closer to IAH then DWH but over three quarters an inch of water and just now the rain is picking up again.

I am in the same boat as you. In fact, just 20 mins ago I was checking where the drain plugs were since I haven't had to do it since getting new filter and pump.

I went to what TAMU calls texas university (sic) and I give better than I take on an SEC Facebook thread but the University of Texas dropped its met program over 50 years ago. I did audit some classes taught by Aggie grad Troy Kimmel and a professor whose name I do not recall but who had a thick German accent.

Anyway, hat tip to our Aggie friends doing a special balloon sounding helping HGX. BTW, mid 50s in the warm nose is impressive.

Modifying a special 18z sounding from Texas A&M University for colder temperatures
indicated later indicates a classic freezing rain sounding with temperatures around +12C in the inversion aloft, and a small
pocket of subfreezing air near the surface.

Interesting to see the cold-front(s) sweep-in from the north and the west on Brownsville radar. We'll start to see that drier air from the NW seep-in this evening, which will lower dew points here.

You saw flurries in Katy?

I've heard a bit of thunder here and there. Interesting for sure.

So what's changed in the Woodlands forecast? Weather app basically gave up on wintry precip.

Over 1.4 of rain so far. Much higher than what was expected. Atmosphere is juiced.

Im currently visiting in paris tn, which is north of jackson. We have close to 3in and a little sleet. We are suppose to be mainly sleet here and switch back and forth. Hope the radar gets active later

Looking at radar, it looks like we will now see on and off sleet showers until the main show arrives later this evening.

If we get can the turnover to snow quicker later with these temps, would be fun ratios.

Not sure how much will fall later this evening/Night, but we’ve been all light snow off and on all day. Still setting at 13 degrees

Seeing sleet here makes me think we have better moisture

A lot of people have double what we have on the ground
