Ugh, why couldn't it be 8:00 pm or 8:00 am? I'll be sleeping on the couch and getting up every 30 minutes to check on the transition :D

Seriously. Why can't we have a day snow? Not sure I'll be able to stay awake.

Those are likely 1-2" per hour snow rates underneath those heavier bands. Depending on how quick the changeover occurs, high potential with this setup.

Sleep when you're dead. We are never promised a next time (last year burns!)

FRFR. I was up till like 2ish last night live monitoring. Then decided sleep was best option at that particular time.

Concerning trend across SC TX in that the HRRR continues to depict higher ice accumulation into the San Antonio metro and up the I-35 corridor into Austin which makes sense considering our surface temp trends. These totals however are dangerously approaching ice storm warning criteria. On top of that you get some sleet thrown in for good measure.

Houston area schools, including districts like Baytown and Pasadena, cancelled school Friday afternoon. I'm on a three day weekend (need to contact parents of failing students and lesson plan, but that is every weekend) I'd be surprised if their are any DFW area schools not cancelled already. If we're talking about extending that up there through Tuesday that probably happens Sunday if there a good snow/sleet pack.

If we get no ice at all down Houston way, which looks less likely as the event approaches (I'm thinking at least a tenth) it is still good we don't have school. In Minnesota or Chicago or Boston they'd laugh, but lows near 20F/windchills in the teens is dangerous for students at bus stops.

For DFW schools closed on Tuesday will probably be a given. Upper 20s for highs Monday. If we get a lot more tonight I doubt it will melt until late Tuesday if that before a cold front arrives. It just comes down to is it safe to run the buses. The eyeball test looking out your window if you see white on the road probably doesn't pass for openings.

Yeah if we had a glaze of drizzle it would sublimate off easily even if were 15 until Tuesday. But we have enough even now it’s not melting quickly.

Yeah, super worried that people are going to let their guard down because they were thinking we were supposed to get ice earlier.

People don’t always accurately listen to forecasts, lol. I’m hopeful it’ll end up being more sleet then freezing rain though.

Down here in particular because sadly local media has been playing catch up today because if you just looked at certain global models yesterday in particular Euro you wouldn't have thought this was a "big deal" but that's why real-time observations and in my opinion experience matters in these events because when you see that amount of arctic air surging south you know models are going to underperform especially globals.

:froze:

Here in Wylie the ground is covered in a thin layer of ice. My kids have been sliding around all morning having fun!

I agree with the notion of sleeping when I'm dead, to bad my body doesn't lol I'll be napping soon so I can stay up late and watch the transition!

Got the call/email about an hour ago that school is cancelled for Monday. Just waiting for the Tuesday call. I'm grateful I work from home so nice time off for the kids!

Yes, heads up to all along the I-35 corridor from Williamson to Comal counties … the NWS is changing our Winter Storm Warning to an Ice Storm Warning. Will be issued shortly.

I stayed up until 1 last night…2 pushes it but I will try. I’m far NW so will switch first. Not in college anymore with all-nighters.

I hope some snow will continue in daybreak. But in marginal cold you always want some snow at night since it helps things stick. We don’t need that this time.

Regarding timing, I do think a chart graphic like “snow likely here,” “dry for this period” etc. would help. So often people assume it’s supposed to rain or snow all day. That’s not usually the case. Even the FWD graphic showing precip types/impacts is deceiving as it has no precip gaps! So you look out the window and say why is it dry. Your chart says sleet…bust. When that’s not accurate.

Haven’t posted so far this morning, but we ended up getting a significant amount of sleet here in Denison overnight (I live about five miles from the Red River). Nearly three inches in fact, a real “snow day” here with kids flying down the local sledding hill and people sliding around as this packs down into a skating rink on the streets. I doubt our kids go to school until at least Wednesday even if nothing else falls.

I’m sorry for everyone who hasn’t had much of anything to get excited about so far and particularly those in Oklahoma who haven’t seen the historic snowfall totals they were hoping for. Don’t give up yet, there’s more to come for many on this thread.

31° in Northern Bexar and falling. Didn’t expect it to be this cold this early. Definitely worried for when the precipitation comes.

HGX ice storm warning is greater than 0.25, below that is a WSW. That would be an ice storm down to San Antonio if that verifies. If I'm at EWX, I'd rather warn of an ice storm now for even greater public exposure, course of least regret. HRRR is doing better than the 3 km NAM, those amounts (power outage levels around Austin) would trigger me to pull the trigger rather than wait for the normal afternoon package.
