Euro too warm likely has some blame. 4-8" locally 10 in some areas might be more realistic.

The one exception is escaping a lot of freezing rain. Round 2 will get the sleet/snow totals up if it holds. Always a chance of getting slotted but FWD still has 100% chance of sleet (heavy at times) with snow mixing in for this evening and tonight.

I can’t imagine Oklahoma getting close to the colossal snow totals expected yesterday, though.

Oh if we get a foot I'll be shocked at this point

I'm stretching to call it 3

I got 10 inches in maybe 6 hours before. It can happen.

Especially with convection.

esoscale Discussion 0042
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0747 AM CST Sat Jan 24 2026

Areas affected...Northwest TX...Southwest OK

Concerning...Winter mixed precipitation

Valid 241347Z - 241645Z

SUMMARY...Increasing coverage of winter mixed precipitation (mostly
sleet) is possible from northwest Texas into southwest Oklahoma over
the next few hours.

DISCUSSION...Deepening ascent is evident on satellite imagery from
far west TX into northwest TX, downstream of a subtle shortwave
trough moving through the southwesterly flow aloft well ahead of the
upper low off the central Baja California coast. This deepening
ascent has resulting in an expanding area of light to moderate
precipitation now moving into northwest TX. Surface temperatures in
this region are well-below freezing (i.e. lower teens to single
digits), but forecast sounding still show a substantial warm nose.
This profile appears to favor sleet, although some snow could be
mixed in a well. As a result, mixed winter precipitation is
anticipated from northwest TX into southwest TX over the next few
hours. Precipitation rates will generally be light, but modestly
steep lapse rates above the warm nose suggest some embedded moderate
rates are possible.

Got to be rooting for some insane ratios. Which might not be too crazy considering the temps. :cold:

Last night was such a struggle is the problem I'm having. Dry fluffy stuff

I think storms in S/SE TX robbed moisture from areas farther north. I've seen that kill winter storms growing up in Iowa when there was severe weather at the same time in the south.

Really surprised so far and not in a good way...only 11/2 inches here in Edmond. Overall storm total forecast is way down, was 12+ for my area north, now saying 6-8.

Oh everyone is mad here. There was so much hype and talk of history and I'm over it now

One TV met already admitted they were flat out wrong

But I'm still hearing people talk about a foot. Like come on

I've been biting my tongue, because the event is far form over and there's still tonight, but without question the first round did bust for DFW in terms of total frozen/freezing QPF.

A few locations locally did somewhat better than others in part because of the convective nature of the precip this mornng (here in Plano, we mostly missed out on the heavier convective cores), but overall still fell short of expectations.

And again, this is all good, Im hardly complaining. If we're being honest, there have been hints this might be the outcome in the model guidance for a minute. But yeah, if the 2nd round also ends up falling short of expectations, forecasters (especially the SM influencers who were really hyping this up) are going to be hearing a mouthful from the general public...

Decent disturbance moving through NW Texas right now. We may not get that much of a break up here before the main event tonight.

Already looks like the 1st batch of precip for our 2nd round is SW of San Angelo. Radar should fill in from there.

Snow in Texas? What’s that?

Don't use my posts as forecast; I'm not a certified meteorologist! I just endorse cold weather, alright?

All observations I note are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Yeah I looked at rainfall estimates on radar and Norman south got a lot more than north.

I have been there. As a kid so many times the forecast would reduce amounts at the end. I hope you can get 6-8 at least. That will stick around awhile.

Wow that’s quick. This might be completely done before daybreak.

The only bust I'm willing to discuss is the NTX FRZ RA bust because honestly I'm super stoked that the freeze line moved as slowly as it did yesterday because widespread much needed rains fell. Not saying more can't fall but i don't think so for the most part.

My biggest fear was widespread power outages because of the ice potential. I’m quite relieved that busted. I did my grocery shopping on Wednesday and it occurred to me about midday Thursday that everything I bought had to be cooked and my apartment is all electric.

I’m in south Grayson county so looking at your image we might get some tail end of that area circled.

Main event for North Texas is between 9pm-3am tonight with final round of possible snow as the ULL ejects out between 4am-10am tomorrow morning
