I just moved my palms and ferns back to the patio and have a few spring bulbs I'm going to plant today. Angling for a reverse jinx that has me hauling things to the garage as winter's last gasp drives through NoTx.

The 12z Euro run today cut way back on any Texas rain event but the Euro EPS really didn't support that shift. However, the 00z GFS keeps beating the drum:

Has DFW really not had a freeze since January 8th? The day after it was 14 degrees? Am I hallucinating? All I see on weather underground since is some 33's...

It just can't be over... there's like no way.

Another day of record high temps across SE TX with mid to upper 80s. Expect daily record highs to be surpassed today and could approach all time February highs at Intercontinental and Hobby this afternoon.

IAH all time Feb high is 91F set in 1986
HOU all time Feb high is 89 set in 1940

Areas of dense fog along the Upper TX Coast will lift later this morning. Tonight's cool front will drop high temps down a little into the low to mid 70s for the rest of the week but remain above normal. Temps warm again for the weekend with increasing moisture off the GOM leading to some showers.

My cold-mongering coworker is conspiring with South Texas Storms to bring some cold Canadian air down here later this month. I'm still not seeing it. Three weeks ago, that cold was going to arrive the first week of February. Hmm, 86 was a little chilly yesterday...

Yep, the last official freeze recorded at DFW airport was Jan 8th, 20 degrees. We hit 33 for a low on the 26th and 27th....sucks.. :ggreen:

Any chance we could collect some funds and send you and the missus away for a nice two-week vacation to end February?! :cheesy:

We can all look enviously at the northeast corridor who will get dumped on yet again. Seems like every year good or bad they always get a major snowstorm. While we stare at brown ground. Did I mention how much I dislike the +PNA pattern  ?

He's leaving for a few days next week so our cold-mongering coworker and I will be taking back the thermometer for a few days!

The latest 12z GFS run shows that

It hurts even more here knowing you're so close, yet so far away.

I feel for you. Snowfall rates will be ripping in the I-95 corridor.

bubba hotep wrote:It is getting harder and harder to deny this current MJO propagation and that probably puts a nail in N. Texas February cold. There will likely still be a shot of cold between the 7 - 10th but ultimately the warmth will rule. We needed the MJO to fizzle and for non MJO convection to linger over portions of the IO. The current MJO looks to kick off the process of extending the Pacific jet and all the joys that go along with it.

On the bright side, this possibly signals the end of la nina and more MJO action to follow. If the +PDO and +QBO continue then Texas might see an exciting spring and then avoid the typical la nina summer hangover.

Right on schedule but an embarrassment of a "cold" front...

The 12z Euro flipped back to wetter look with portions of N . Texas getting 2-3" more rain than the last couple of runs.
