Really? You’d think they would have more snow than that. At least IMO. 11” doesn’t really seem like that much for KC. And honestly I thought they were gonna get a lot more than 11”. I was thinking somewhere around 15-18”. I’m not sure the totals verified up there.

From what I read yesterday it's very hard to get truly epic snowfall in Kansas City I guess they always get dry slotted or something. I mean nothing since the 60s has beaten it for a reason I guess

I saw 14" in Topeka so there was a little more elsewhere

There is high confidence in at least measurable snow Wednesday night into Friday. A rain-snow mix is expected, so exact amounts are still uncertain. If temperatures are a few degrees warmer or cooler than currently forecast, final snow accumulations may be lower or higher. Hazardous travel is likely Thursday and Friday, especially on untreated roads. Consider altering any late week travel plans, and keep up with the forecast!


An Arctic airmass has settled over North and Central Texas and cold temperatures are expected for several days. Most likely highs are in the mid to upper 30s near the Red River with 40s elsewhere. Most likely lows will be in the 20s. Morning wind chills in the teens are likely, with single digits along the Red River possible.

Guess I had I higher expectations since the models were spitting out higher totals. I feel like the precipitation up there was never really falling that heavily. When I checked the radar the brighter blue returns were showing up more in the eastern part of Missouri and into Kentucky, at least when I checked it around 2:30 yesterday afternoon.

Stage is getting set. Pretty cold this morning near 20F across much of North Texas, mid to upper 20s in Central Texas, and upper 20s and low 30s in SE Texas.

This event to me looks like a colder version of the Feb 2010 event. It will come down to qpf bands as that will be a factor where highest amounts will be. Some of the early waves of precip alone may drop anywhere from 2-4" no less the main show. It will probably be a top 3 event with potential to rival the two big ones if we get the qpf (1964, 2010.)

Further south gets a little more tricky with Ptypes where in the 32-34 range, if it's a little colder then it will be more impactful down that way. The main precip shield will likely help to drop it some.

Another winter storm is looking possible middle of next week.

Yeah I thought the peak was right at the start and then after about 330. The rest of it was kind of underwhelming a bit. But considering the airport only had 7 on the 6pm climate summary I think 11 was pretty good I dunno I'm learning some stuff about up here remember how far we are from the Gulf here. Im guessing that hurts them a lot

Anyway even up here they are talking about some snow Friday and TWC has a potential winter storm for Tulsa now

I'm really hoping we don't have another infamous arbageddon down here like 2023. But I THINK the conditions are different for this one, especially if we get above freezing. In 2023 we had freezing drizzle with periods of moderate rain off and on for a couple days or so with temps staying below freezing, tree limbs breaking all over the place! Hoping there are no evaporative cooling effects keeping it freezing. Would frankly rather have the cold rain personally or snow if I had a choice (since we need the water and snow is lighter on the power lines/trees).

It took months to cleanup from that around here. Still have "PTSD" from that and the 2021 event anytime there is mention of winter weather.

Starting to see far out into the NAM (consider it has a lot of shifts too in its "long range") which changed from 6z of a lot more qpf, winter storm.

S/W made landfall and is in the Pac NW diving through California and Nevada this morning.

Starting to get into decent short range mode now, still a few runs out from Hi Res but here is the current depiction of the transition zones on the NAM. Wouldn't pay too much attention to amounts yet, probably most useful to see where the boundaries lie for snow, sleet, freezing rain currently. No big surprises compared to the Globals except for a further southeast boundary for Frz Rain into portions of southeast Texas
