Despite all the other models showing today's disturbance being too dry for anything more than a few light showers, the Euro was the lone wolf giving us better rain chances. Looks like the Euro has won out as we are seeing thunderstorms developing just southwest of San Antonio moving north/northeast up the I-35 coridoor. Just spoke with a friend down there and he is reporting darkening skies and rumbles of thunder.

That is a good point. I recall yesterday morning's AFD out of EWX talked about how the Euro was the outlier in being the "wetter" model. King Euro wins out once again. Radar is active at lunchtime over south central Texas.

I stepped outside to go to lunch and determined that winter wasn't over. Low to mid 50s and raining now. On the bright side, I plotted a 10-day meteogram for Houston and had to adjust the top value to 80F for next week.

Nice to know the outlier wins out in this case! Looking dark out here at work. Rain on our doorstep. The Corpus discussion right before noon (referenced by EWX) said there may be pea sized hail or graupel mixed in with the heavier showers since there is a cold pool aloft interacting with elevated instability and passing shortwaves, but they weren't confident of that happening. No hail/graupel here at the moment.

Yeah, we have a nice setup for snow in texas today, just missing one small thing....

Also, the blizzard setting up for next week will be GREAT for laying down some snow cover for the Plains area.

Yes, I did win the contest. Here's a pic of the trophy (slightly edited to remove the name of the person who awards it and my company). Unfortunately (for all of you cold weather lovers), by nature I love warm weather. However, temps in January have been below normal all across Texas. Not cold enough for snow, but cooler highs than normal.

Yeah, I noticed that on the radar loop. Quite odd-looking. Heavy rain moves toward Austin and stops dead in its tracks along a line. Who put up the rain wall over Austin?

Seems like there may be drier air mixing in? After about 45 min of light rain it stopped. Irritating to say the least...

Snowed like crazy all day in Midland. No accumulation, but it was pretty heavy snow.
