Just removed 3.5 inches of snow off the driveway. Its the very wet and heavy snow in Pittsburgh, PA. NWS is calling for 10 to 14 inches now with isolated 18 inch reports. The Pittsburgh office has already 6 inches on the ground, and there are a bunch of 4 to 6 inch reports around southwestern PA. I seem to live in a hole that doesnt get as much snow as others do. On the way home from work, there was about an inch on the ground and roads were starting to become snow covered....10 miles away at home, it was snowing, but it wasnt sticking to anything.

Just measured here in Hopewell Township, close to the Pittsburgh airport, and I have 6 1/2". Radar looks pretty busy. I would assume we will clear the foot mark tonight. Starting to get very windy now though.

Just went outside and took a few measurements. I got 10" in the back yard (no trees), and 7" in the front yard (trees) and on the road (no trees).

And I definitely just saw lightning.

Wife just told me that through her twitter feed with CNN, Delaware has declared a state of emergency and has ordered all cars off roads by 10PM.

Also, pretty much all of the snow here has come since 5 o' clock. I nearly lost power and more importantly internet a few minutes ago.

Strangely, the NWS has lowered the expected nighttime accumulations for this area from 16-22 inches to 12-18. I've already had about 7-9 inches so far tonight!

:uarrow: Really? They could do a better job of making that clear.

I went out and got 9" on the road, 13" in the backyard. That's kind of strange - there was only about a one inch difference during the December snow storm.

i live in Ireland and the god damn Gulf stream prevents me from ever getting any decent snow :(

Hello Ireland Leaf Blower! We sure could use your blower power tomorrow or so when all this snowing stops. It's a formal blizzard now, with visibility down to <1/4 of a mile, wind gusts in bands around 15 to 20 mph or so, and snow at about 2 inches per hour. Electricity has gone off, then flickered on and you can hear transponders popping with the black out. I'll look for some decent webcams in the morning, as you'd not see much tonight. Maybe too I can figure out how to post some pictures. Glad you like the snow, and wish we could send it your way. Stay well. WLD

Wow. About thirty minutes ago, I got 13 inches in the back yard. It's now 15 1/4. That can't possibly be right.

Also, the NWS website seems to be adjusting their figures quite frequently. They're up to 15-21 total for the night now, an inch less than they had it a couple hours ago and an inch more than they had it about a half an hour ago.

Live scanner feeds for different areas around PA. This is live feeds for police/fire/emergency management agencies. Probably can get these feeds for other states as well.
