For one, we will be returning to a colder pattern over the next few weeks, and this December was one of the top ten coldest nationwide. Also, we have seen winters like this before. Back in the 60s (I want to say 64', but am not sure), there was a winter very similar to this one, and during the 60s we were also in an active hurricane period. I am not ready to blame "global warming" just yet...because some parts of the world (Asia) have actually been thier coldest in 20 years (which wouldn't make sense were it to be GLOBAL warming). I think if we start to see the ENTIRE world begin to have above average hurricane seasons and mild winters we can say global warming, but as of this point that has not happened.

Well said.

This weather is sort of ominous, because if it does not get really cold in the deep south for a period of time, the GOM waters will be abnormally warm again and we will have another hurricane season full of Katrinas and Ritas from here out to Zetaville.

Global warming cuts both ways. The mild winter air keeps the heating bills down despite record prices, but global warming also manufactures hurricanes that damage our nation's ability to make and distill petroleum products.

Global warming has NOTHING at all to do with the mild weather. Its called a "pattern". We are in a warm pattern right now. WARM PATTERN. Obviously you haven't heard of the extreme cold and snow being observed on the other side of the globe, such as Japan. Some countries have seen their coldest winter in 20 years! And are we going to blame that on global warming too? Its nonsence. The earth has weather patterns, and the United States happens to be in a warm one right now. Oh well, it doesn't matter. If it was extremely cold right now, then people would blame it on Global Warming. Global warming enthusiasts loved last year's hurricane season. Most named storms ever, blame it on global warming!!

I think the idea of global warming exists just so that people would have something to blame the earth's problems on. In reality, I have a very hard time believing the computer models that are predicting NYC to be like Miami by 2100. I mean come on, NYC like Miami in 94 years or less? I HIGHLY doubt that. Also, if our computer models (GFS, etc.) can't get a forecast 7 days out from now right, then how are they going to get a forecast for 50-100 years out right? Also, it has been confirmed that the gulf stream is slowing due to fresh water slowing it down (the melting ice makes fresh water). If the gulf stream continues this trend, then we may be talking about a mini-ice age for the U.S. and Europe within the next 50 years...not global warming. In the 70s they were shouting global cooling, in the 90s it was global warming, and by 2010 it will probably be global cooling again. Who knows what will really happen, but what I do know is that I am not going to trust a theory of global warming when Asia is seeing thier coldest weather in over 20 years (would that make sense?)!
