Actually many record cold lows/highs were broken (mainly across the middle to upper plains and NE) in early to mid December and again in February due to cold air out of Siberia. The only reason the map is so warm looking is because of that huge January thaw.

I hope all of the weather gamblers out there predict a warm and dry winter for us next year so the exact opposite will happen. Maybe playing reverse psychology might work for once. :roll:
