Virginia/Maryland Winter Storm thread

Sigh....it looks like we've been duped here in the valley once again. Only an inch on the ground here in Winchester. We were forecasted for 4 to 8 in. What ever happened to the whole "more snow as you go north and west of DC rule?" I suppose maybe I can keep my hopes up for early next week.

Don't worry, I'm in Annapolis (40 miles west) and they had me in for 6 to 10 inches. Now they say sleet will mix in. That leaves me with 2 inches from this "significant storm". I'm going out to buy a chainsaw and go on a rampage....that's the only thing that would settle my anger.

Solid 3-4 inches on the ground in Fredericksburg and Stafford county and still steady snow coming down. Manassas up solid 2+ inches steady here as well.

snow is NOT common for Cape May County! ;-)
we normally get ice, sleet when all around us have snow.

Today is a rarity!

Can someone tell me whether this is tracking east or west of the track listed last night? I'm wondering how much of an impact this will have on Nova Scotia if it tracks slightly more to the east. Environment Canada has issued a Blizzard warning for the province as the storm is expected to deepen after leaving the EC and over water

Philly is going to be in the 6-8 indiana. You should move the 6-8 a little more west.

Storm total for Richmond: Trace. They called for 4-6 inches. It only snowed for about an hour, apparently. It's raining pretty good outside right now. -_-;;

I'm beginning to believe that winter is indeed over here. Gonna be in the high 40's tomorrow, and it looks like we're gonna have milder temps for the next week or so.

Solid 4+ inches of snow here in Fredericksburg. Snow has changed over to light sleet. 30.5 degrees on the ole patio. My daughter and I just made a huge snowman, perfect snow for snowman. Usually Fredericksburg busts, it is nice to get a little snow before the slop sets in.

I'd like to keep this thread bumped for next weeks possible storm for the MD/VA area. I have a bad feeling it won't pan out though. Unfortunately, my gut has usually had better forecasts than the local mets around here this winter.

Officially 4 1/2 inches of snow in Fredericksburg. I will take it, so will my daughters!
Next concern is ice, temp down to 28 degrees with freezing drizzle. Roads will get nasty tonight into tomorrow morning's rush hour, be careful.

Much discussion about the upcoming track of this winter storm. Will it be a big rainmaker or a coastal snow bomb? I am leaning towards it being between the Gulf stream and the coast, yes, that would be a huge snow maker for I-95 cities. This thread will stay open for all to discuss effects on the Mid-Atlantic. Enjoy and thanks for you insight and forecasts.

I hope you're right, but why is it your feeling that it will be a coastal? All the stations around here are making it seem like it's a shoe-in for a rain event.

One thing I do not hear much discussion about is the depth of the southern storm track, look at current IR, track is quite supressed. I think there are several reasons to justify more snow than rain. Ultimate track and recurve point (not that much unlike Hurricanes approaching from the opposite angle) are driven by several factors. The key here is to not wish this storm anywhere. Everyone from the Ohio valley and points north and east want this to be a monster snow storm. Watch model trends and IR.
