Isn't that practically every winter?

Well, I'm not giving up yet. I'll join Ticka in the snow dance. *cha cha cha*

Been There Done That AND No Snow fell

#24 Postby KatDaddy » Tue Jan 13, 2004 10:29 pm

I will never forget the snowstorm that never materialized for Houston. It was in the late 80s if memory serves me correctly. The forecast called for 4-6" amounts over night and into the next day. Temps were near freezing and rain changeover to snow was about to occur. That was as close to ever to a modern day Houston snowstorm.

Ever since then I never get to excited.........way to draining mentally. The hurricane season already takes a toll.....I need my rest :)

1988 .. to be exact ... January 6th-7th ... that storm did materalize in the Southeast ... without deep cyclogenesis, the storm produced over 12" of snow in GSP and the last significant sleet/ZR storm in the lower Carolinas. One hell of an overrunning event.

I know what you mean KD!!!

The last "big" snowstorms(s) in Houston occured in January and February 1973-3 events in 1 months time ranging from1" to 4" accumulations. There have been others including one in the last 10 years or so where it snowed in your neck of the woods(2" I believe)and we got nothing up here in Houston.

Yep, models are still showing some very cold arctic air spilling into Texas late next week. It's just a wait and see game I guess. I sure hope the models stay consistent with this.
I just got this off of the Lubbock/Texas discussion. This gives us an idea on what we could be expecting. Sound good right now.

LATEST
ECMWF INDICATED RIDGE TO BECOME HIGHLY AMPLIFIED OVER THE EASTERN
PACIFIC WITH A POSITIVE TILT INTO WESTERN CANADA AND A DIGGING
TROUGH INTO THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES. THIS WOULD ALLOW FOR SOME VERY
COLD AIR TO RIDE DOWN THE SPINE OF THE ROCKIES WHICH COULD BRING US
A SHOT OF SNOW OR FREEZING RAIN BY THE MIDDLE ON NEXT WEEK. MOSTLY
LIKELY ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT/THURSDAY TIME FRAME. STAY TUNED!

... and that one, lonely sound you hear in the weather wilderness, is the lone, last Texas snow goose .... honking and hoping for winter weather.

Will the goose be happy?

As JB said on his video this morning: "Only the good Lord above knows what'll happen. The rest of us have to guess at it."
