Knowing my luck, it won’t happen and we might see a dusting more, but I’m crossing my fingers with blind optimism.

That sucks but sounds about right lol

This is Tulsa :double: this is the biggest snowstorm there in years (not really saying much sadly)

I had a feeling the Southern Plains were going to score in this pattern, however it's only been Oklahoma to benefit so far. Last couple of weeks of this semester of grad school had a pretty heavy workload, but I just finished everything yesterday so I'll try to look at the teleconnections for a possible Christmas storm within the next couple of days.

It's too warm for tonight's odds. We could beg for some slim odds with the early to mid week system (the big noreaster) for maybe some brief northerly flow type snow but that doesn't occur too often.

We will have to look towards Christmas week as the ensembles feature a notable trough swinging through the US with NW Canada seeded with some cold prior.

The positive spin on things is that we've been able to maintain a persistent -AO and -NAO (Greenland block) in the time of year we need it most. Unusual to see despite the strong strat vortex and La Nina. It has allowed storm systems to sustain themselves, very little southeast ridge. We just need some cold air to work into the mix which may come with climatology and some Pacific help.

I'm fully expecting some big blast of cold to come late December or early January as is with any signature La Nina event. Probably some of kind -EPO dump.

Getting reports as far south as McKinney of sleet pellets! Over the next few hours, a few snowflakes and sleet pellets may fall in the area circled. Ground temps are too warm for icy travel.

Our Christmas Day system is still there on the 18z GFS but not as cold as some earlier runs. When we get a bowling ball crossing the state in Dec - Feb there is usually a chance for winter weather.

Lots of time for it to get colder, wetter, hotter, drier, probably all of them. As long as it shows something every couple runs we have something to at least talk about. It’s never consistent this far out.

I miss the days of waking up and looking here and having to read a few pages just to catch up. Maybe the next 2 weeks can change that :D

Picked up the coldest temp of the season so far with this front. Made it down to 19 with one of the heaviest frosts I’ve seen.

:spam: definitely more snow for the same places in Oklahoma but...

While CAA at the surface is not expected to be exceptional,
temperatures across most areas will be held in check due to cloud
cover with highs largely in the upper 30s to mid 40s. For areas
near and southwest of a Breckenridge to Waco line, westerly flow
will develop as surface cyclogenesis takes place across the Concho
Valley and southern Big Country. As the upper low approaches
portions of the atmospheric column will trend cooler. The
temperature at the top of the shallow moist layer is forecast to
be around -7 C which is right on the fringes of supporting ice
nucleation. If that occurs, the predominant precipitation type
would be a mix of rain and snow with surface temperatures above
"freezing". However, if ice nucleation does NOT occur, there`s a
chance that all precipitation could fall as a cold rain/drizzle.
I`ll maintain a mix of rain and snow in the official forecast,
with no significant snow accumulation forecast. I won`t rule out a
dusting, however, as some guidance does indicate the potential
for some modest frontogenesis resulting in a deformation band. The
best chances for a mix of rain and snow will be for areas near and
north of a Sulphur Springs to Bowie line.

You bring the moisture and us DFW folks will take care of the cold!!! :froze:
Kidding aside, Rick Mitchell from KXAS did mention a potential front on Christmas Eve. Very early but should be an interesting 10 days of weather watching.

Oh man in Georgia if I see just snowflakes I am ecstatic.
In Atlanta even that fails to occur some years.

I'll keep an eye out tomorrow on hi res models to see where if any wraparound snow may fall late tomorrow. Seems like wraparound flurries are possible for the I-30 corridor maybe south of there but more likely near the Red River.
