I guess you can change 2010-11 to 26 days.

WOW!! I presume that is for "winter", basically meaning since the first 32F or below reading? That would be my guess for the minimum here at my location. I should keep a record like my dad did for many years.

So, how low did you go? It got to 23° here. I think that's the last time I'll see a temp that low this year. Well, this season.

I have to say... I am amazed by how many freezes and hard freezes we've had. I think we've had more nights below freezing than not! I wish I had kept a record of it. Just unreal.

My birdbath still has ice in it this afternoon! lol It sits in the shade so even though it's in the 50s, it hasn't completely melted yet.

26F this am. I have uncovered my dead plants in hopes of revival in the next two weeks. :cheesy: :cheesy: I think I may have lost my hibiscuses for good this time since they were still trying to recover from last winter.
I, like you, wish I had kept track of the number of freezes. It is definitely a lot more than we have had in years and they have definitely been colder than most we have had in many years. Definitely not a typical La Nina winter!!

vbhoutex, I feel your pain!!! I had my El Capitolio Sport hibiscus (the apricot colored one) in the ground since 2003 and I lost it last winter. I always take cuttings *just in case* and I'm sooo glad I did. After this winter, I fully expect to have to replace the one I planted this year. And we didn't even get any snow to make it worth it

Make that 27 days this winter at freezing or below. It's quite amazing to think last winter was considered our coldest since the mid 1990s and we "only" had 17 freezes. The weather today was perfect though, bring on spring I'm tired of all the brown!

Hope all enjoyed the :sun: . Cleanup from freeze damage has started. Low clouds and fog look to be an issue in the week ahead. Those 40's/low 50's coastal water temps may take a while to warm.

Oh how I long to get out in my freeze damaged gardens and orchard. The high winds destroyed my arbors and beautiful wooden trellises that my peas were growing up. The beautiful sunshine for the past two days makes it that much worse because I want to be in my yard and not at work. I'll finally get a day off Tuesday after working nine days in a row without a break and DH just came in my office to tell me that he's having a board meeting here Tuesday afternoon. Sigh, I guess I'll be cleaning house inside instead of outside with company coming over. I am enjoying the sunshine. I really needed it. I really need to get my hands in the dirt and my life will be complete. LOL

Does anyone know of a way to go back and see how many days it has gotten to freezing in my city (Baton Rouge)? I'm not asking anyone to do it for me, feel free to just tell me where to go and I can do the research myself. Not sure what kind of place puts highs and lows online and keeps them for a while.

Try this BigB. It's the only way i know how to find previous temps.

After a low of 28° yesterday morning, it was only 44° here this morning. It's been a while since it hasn't gone below freezing!

It feels great outside today! I've hit a high of 70°!!

That's interesting. That is the same number of days I have had at or below freezing since December 1, 2010 here at my north Jacksonville, FL location. I reached the 30 mark with the light freeze I had here on Sunday morning (Feb. 13). Indeed, it has been one of the coldest winters I can ever remember here in NE FL.

While the warmer temps feel nice I worry we are jumping into spring REALLY quick. By the end of next week our night time lows are barely going below 60 with no end in sight. That's a very drastic change from the past 2.5 months. Remember everyone 6+ months of the year can be downright hot and humid with temperatures over 90...let's enjoy the rest of cool season while it lasts! I've told everyone complaining about the cold this winter that I better not hear them this summer...because I'll be the one complaining! I've lived on the gulf coast all my life but it still "gets to me" every summer. Thank god for the afternoon showers and storms!

It's 55° outside right now and I've STILL got a little heater going in my kitchen. I am pathetic. I have become a winter wimp.

It was really weird getting in my car today when I left campus and having to crank the air all the way up. It was HOT in my car.

Agreed. Can take the cold much better than the oppressively humid heat down here.

Today was absolutely spectacular. You just can't pay for weather like today. Of course the cleanup begins. A few weeds ago the high winds did some major damage to my fence, trellises and raised garden beds. The freeze thankfully didn't seem to damage my citrus but my Queen Anne palms look really horrible. I'll never understand how every blade of St. Augustine can die back with these freezes but the weeds and clovers go wild in the same weather. I did manage to get the raised garden beds weeded but I still have 5 more flower beds to go. I'm thinking that the freeze damages did not stop above ground. I found an entire section of my back yard drenched right around where all of the main water lines run so I have a feeling we have a busted pipe. I did manage to get 6 tomato and 3 bell pepper plants planted today so at least it's a start. Enjoy spring everyone. It never lasts long enough before becoming downright unbearable.

Quite amazing we may actually end February above normal after starting the first 10 days off around 15 degrees below normal. The grasses (mostly weeds) are really turning green and the trees look like they're about to burst with buds if they already haven't. Our low last night was only 67 degrees, it feels like we went from the dead of winter to mid May! Some may enjoy the warm weather and while it felt nice the first few days, I've found it rather muggy and not at all what I look forward to for our 'spring.' I hope this changes soon or we'll be talking heat index shortly  . Where are my crystal blue skies, mild and breezy daytime temps with chilly nights?
