No real surprises it seems with this storm for the 'bigger' cities which I was rooting for.

Jan or Feb must bring some goods or else lets turn the page to spring and look for more severe weather and storms!

The -EPO period coming late this month (around Christmas) could be interesting especially along with the -/=PNA pattern underneath. More Arctic blocking would be ideal but I think we will have to wait until deeper into the winter for that to develop (it will though).

Good news Metroplexers, the mist drought is OVER!!! What an incredible journey to work this morning. The heavy mist was so thick visibility had to have been .01 of a mile. Exiting my car proved difficult because the microscopic water droplets were piercing my flesh due to ferocious winds. I am shocked heavy mist warnings were not posted overnight. We can all rejoice.

It can stop raining now. Steady rain most of yesterday to heavy rain yesterday evening to heavy rain all night long, to heavy rain into this morning. My property and pastures are under water. There’s nothing worse than cold winter rain. I have no idea how much we’ve gotten because it’s been raining sideways since yesterday.

Yep, we were grasping at straws on this one....there is some potential on the horizon, starting around the 23-24th and beyond with a -AO and EPO, PNA forecast to go negative as well! Although numerous mixed signals that make it very difficult beyond 7 days. But before we can get too enthusiastic, need to start seeing Arctic Air showing up in the long range....Canada is about to torch!

Not much high wind, or rain with this system for southern Tarrant. Yall do know Winter doesn't start till December 21st? right....

As I said yesterday, we are below normal temp wise and above precip wise for December, we can't be in a better setup, and our bulk of winter weather (90%) is during Jan-Feb.

In addition to the other good comments folks have made here, I want to point out (and remind those who already know) that upper level lows (cold core lows) are notorious for being fickle and defying the odds and the models. I am not certain about the science, but I just know after talking to NWS meteorologists and seeing how these systems play out that they seldom act as predicted. Someone may get little or no snow when they're under a Winter Storm Watch/Warning and others may get hammered when little expected. Sometimes they end up with much less precip than predicted. Often times they don't track along the path the models say they will. It's just a real crap shoot with these things and winter weather lovers in Texas need to temper expectations in these situations.

FV3 finally picks up on the Arctic Air coming around New Years. At 300 hours onward you can see it bleeding south and at the end of the run (12/30), Amarillo is sitting in the teens and Abilene is at 51 degrees. It's below zero for most of the plains and intermountain West. Our source region is a icebox.

It never really warms up Christmas week. Very seasonal to a somewhat below average. Christmas Day in particular, is decently below average with highs in the low 50s south and mid to upper 40s north.

I've been reminded this week what I HATE about this time of year - Juniper/Mountain Cedar. Sinuses went off the rail so I had to get a steroid shot yesterday.

We need to eridicate these freaking things, they are pure evil!

Since most of them are down in Hill Country, my dear friend Portastorm can start but cutting down all of them within a 100 mile radius of his home.
