Being that ATL has the potential to receive snow on 3/17, I decided to compile the 1"+ ATL events I've located to this point that occurred within one week of 3/17 since 1879. I've been able to find SIX 1"+ snow events so far for this 125 year period, which equates to one about every 21 years on average. Interestingly, however, ATL has had THREE within just the last 22 years! Here they are:
1) 3/17-18/1892: 3" snow (per 1/19/1893 Atl Const.) almost entirely on 3/17 from .64" liquid equiv. (LE) although I believe some of this fell as rain before turning to snow; ATL temp.'s 3/17: 38/30
2) 3/13-14/1924: 4" snow from .53" LE with as much as 2" as far S as Macon mostly on 3/13; ATL temp.'s 3/13: 46/31; weak El Nino winter
3) 3/11/1960: 4" snow from .52" LE; ATL temp.'s: 41/30
4) 3/24/1983: 7.9" snow from 1.71" LE; ATL temp.'s: 47/32; a surprise snow
5) 3/11-12/1987 1.2" snow from .12" LE; ATL temp.'s: 3/11: 44/31; 3/12: 49/30
6) 3/13/1993 4.2" snow Hartsfield/11" snow Marietta; 1.28" LE but much of that fell at Hartsfield while still rain;
ATL temp.'s: 38/23

The March 1983 snowstorm in ATL is the record for March and also amazing that it occurred 3 days into spring ... a very, very sharp contrast with regards to temperatures as well ... while north and west of the low was receiving heavy snow, I was in the warm sector in CHS, with temperatures in the 70's, with 2 rounds of SVR WX (hailstorms) ... before colder air filtered in and a few flurries were reported ...
