Midwest/OV Map for Sun/Mon! Icestorm/Snowstorm!!! (OLD)

#1 Postby Guest » Fri Jan 23, 2004 1:25 am

Well here it is everyone.

Let me first start by saying these amounts shown on the map below is for the 1st system that will be affecting the Midwest/OV/ and eventually the Eastcoast and in no way has anything to do with the system following it that will bring another round of snow to the Midwest and GL on Mon/Tues.

Ok the first big issue will be the ice because as it seems right now some in S.IN, S.OH, And N.KY could be seeing a (Moderate to severe)damaging ice storm from this system.

Most places along the OH river "South" should begin as snow but then switch over to Sleet and freezing rain and eventually rain along and south of the OH river on Sat Nite into Sunday. Shouldnt be as big of a problem down this way for the ice allthough it could be enough to knock out some power.

Farther north of here (OH River North to about the south side of Columbus in OH and the South side of Indianapolis, IN) is where the major/Severe ice problems looks to be had. Here like areas farther to the south Snow should develop on Sat night and become heavy before mixing with and changing to Heavy Sleet and freezing rain Sunday and then ending as rain in southern most areas near the River Sunday Afternoon into Sunday night. Power outages could be widespread in these areas.

North of here mainly along and north of i70 in Indiana, And Ohio is where the big problem wil be snow and some areas as shown on the map could see over a foot of snow before all is said and done. Areas close to i70 could see mixed precip "mainly sleet" mix in during the hight of the storm cutting amounts down slightly and for the most part most will end as some light drizzle S or freezing drizzle N.

And let me remind all there is still room for adjustment here as we still are a couple of days away from the event. So check back in for more updates on this.

So, are you then talking about the system that will be moving in this evening and into Sunday a.m.? Out local mets are not calling for any accumulation--some "mix" Saturday morning----that is about it. You indicate for my area--Chas, WV---quite an array of weather. What does the ZR stand for? Zero accumulation? Thanks.

Looks pretty good, Harry. Hope it verifies! And of course I will be interested in your thoughts for areas east of the App mountains.

The NWS here has issued a winter storm watch for Sunday! That map looks good!

Exactly what I do NOT want to see! I had enough with last year's President's Day Storm!

agreed. nice map too. although you may want to knock the 1-3" area down by an inch or so.

Yea FLguy it seems i dont need to update this map as i am sticking with it for my second call. I do agree that the northern end may have to come down some in that 1 - 3 zone and perhaps the western end of the 3 - 6 zone.

Only other thing i will say is that now i kinda doubt anyone will see over a foot. However i will refine these amounts late tonight or early tomorrow.

over a foot ---- probably not. but totals up to 12" are possible especially across portions of PA and into the central mountains where QPFs are still around .75" and ratios are somewhat higher. generally a decent 6-10" fall.

I should perhaps delete this seeing how some keep referring to it. I did do a update which should be the thread below this now.
