This is an excerpt from Bill Evans from ABC7-NYC chatroom...Hes a pretty reliable met but at times he gets conservative with his forecasts. But this quote makes me wonder.....

Then the southern branch feature is giving us a run for the forecast money as the models are all over the place, but it looks like we get some kind of snow from the southern branch feature Sunday night and into Monday. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. It's a tough call right now. However, I do believe after that southern feature goes by starting around Tuesday, we get really big and at the end of next week we may have a big storm. Mark it down. Yes, I said a big storm by the end of next week. We don't know yet, how much, how strong, how long, don't ask, we'll keep an eye on it for you."

I agree. Ever since this morning the models are coming together for something next weekend. It isn't often times with SNOW is forecast for the deep south, even with the TWC for 10 days out.

Something tells me that something big is cooking.

With all this polar air in Canada sitting there for so long, and the southern branch of the jet cooking up there will be something somewhere that phases.

The cold air will be there, it's only a matter of time now.

The question is, will it be a Great Lakes snowstorm? Midwest snowstorm? Ohio Valley snowstorm? Northeast snowstorm? I have seen speculation in favor of each (and all) of these areas to have a snow event. I have even read that the primary low tracks into the great lakes and a secondary (coastal) develops near Long Island. That would be a warm rain event for me, followed by windy, cold and DRY. Not exactly what I am hoping for. So far, the idea of the secondary storm developing far enough south and east to give me a snowstorm is not looking good.

This will be a Plains event; remember they have not had anything all winter. For the east, milder with rain showers during the event. We've been cold all January; it is someone else's turn now, snowless MA notwithstanding.

So, I am issuing my Umbrella and Galoshes Warning. It's Official!

Thanks Jeb!!!!! We haven't had a real good snow here in almost 3 years-our biggest winter events were the ice storm in Jan. 2002 and a 4 incher this past December!! Our mets yesterday were talking-enjoy the weekend and then get the snow shovels ready!!! There is some model support for something early next week, but like you Jeb, I'm not going to hold my breath-I'll just watch and see!!!!
