Northeast Storm Recap
9AM EST, December 8, 2003
The historic winter storm that blasted the
mid-Atlantic and northeast with heavy
snow, high winds and coastal beach
erosion has come to an end, and the full
extent of the storm`s impact is now
evident.
While 2 foot plus snowfall amounts were
not as widespread as in the Presidents
Day (Feb 14-16) storm of 2003, there
were some very heavy bands of snow just
north and west of Boston that produced amounts up to 3 feet (with more than 4 feet in the White Mountains of New Hampshire).
Also, the 18" that fell in Albany made this the second-greatest snow storm so early in the season. Only a November 24-25, 1971 with 22.5" topped this storm.
Peak snowfall amounts included:
Maine:
l Bridgeton - 32"

From Pennsylvania and New Jersey south through the mid-Atlantic
snowfall amounts were considerably lighter as they were on the outer edge of the second round of snow that organized as the storm rapidly intensified off the coast of Long Island.
Peak amounts in the mid-Atlantic were around a foot in the Washington,
DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia areas and increased to about 15" in central
Pennsylvania and central New Jersey.
