Cosgrove refuses to acknowledge his bust(for the most part)
Claims even now predictions are being over estimated and will DERAIL(LOL), pushes the idea of storm not really getting act together til off CANADA Maritimes, states it was an unusual set of circumstances forming the storm off lower MA coast which models could not get a decent grip on,...storm is not a major feature,.. maybe dry air coming in?, ..warm air on east side changing populated communitities to rain,.. blah blah bla blah blah..Face it Coz, you BUSTED!!LOL!

A former LI'der, how much ya think eastern Nassau county will see with this (north Shore). Seems that NWS says 4 - 6 eastern LI, 6 - 8 western LI and NYC. Seems light to me since BOX is calling for 1 - 2 feet NW of Boston metro. Granted, the storm will be deepening as it pulls NE, but think western LI will see more, especially since it should stay MOSTLY snow there. Got a brother going down to Manhattan today for a broadway show Saturday night. If its 4 - 6 I'll tell him to go for it. If its a foot+, I'll tell him to stay home. Thoughts please

One bite at a time
He seems to be eating his crow very slowly.
I measured 5 inches as of 6 am in Centreville, VA, just south of IAD.
Drove into DC, where there is about a half inch on car tops and grass.

Went to sleep at 2 am after witnessing the first flakes to fall. Just awoke to about an inch of snow in Western Chester Co., PA.
Thanks for posting that PIS DT. I was pretty shocked to see so many at or above 6". Looks like some of those places(and here too??) could possibly be looking at 2' when all is said and done. Incredible.

Re: Cosgrove refuses to acknowledge his bust(for the most pa
LC provided sound reasoning for his ideas. Let's see how things work out. Remember, one can make good assumptions and still sometimes be wrong (and we'll see what happens here).
Overall, LC is a great meteorologist and the outcome of this storm will not take away from that.
Keep in mind, things could still go wrong for the big snowstorm idea, though I believe that the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will see a major snowfall (and my ideas from last night are looking conservative per the latest run of the GFS and ETA; I'll make such changes as necessary per the ECMWF, which I believe temporarily deviated from its earlier solution, and 0Z GFS and ETA). Certainly, the potential exists for a storm that could be comparable to the historic December 11-12, 1960 blizzard for a good portion of the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. but that potential still needs to be realized.

Thanks Dave. Do you have any reports from DC metro such as Wheaton, Silver Spring, Laurel, Bowie, Upper Marlboro, Waldorf, Camp Springs, Springfield, and Dc proper- those general areas that are not 10+ miles north and west of beltway and where perhaps as much as 70% of the DC metro population lives and works. Truely an event-big event in the N & W locations, I said 2" for IAD and they got 5 so that is a bust, I said 0 for DCA and they got 1, and I said up to 6" in farthest n & w areas and there are a few reports of 7"+. However, for where most of the people work and live in and around DC, this has not been a big event. Now if that coastal takes over and dumps another 4"+ over a widespread part, or all, of DC metro than my ideas will have been totally incorrect. At this point, while my ideas have not been good, I do not accept the catergorization that this has been a big event for the entire DC metro area, the overrunning was a lot more than I thought it would be, let's see about the much discussed part 2 monster.

Ummm...you said maybe 6" on some mountaintop......6"+ were widespread in Loudoun, Montogomery, Fauqier, and other relatively close in areas....You busted horribly on part 1....sorry......Matt

obviously you havent seen how many people are out near Western Fairfax, Loudoun County,Montgomery,Faquire now. Last time i checked...IAD is part of the DC metro area --unless suddenly it shrunk to make your forecast look better.
