First snow of the season at my home near Craig. Our last snow was back on June 7. Fall is here.

Re: First snow
What elevation are you scott? Supposedly snow level here in the front range could drop to 7500...but no accumulation expected. Here in denver...48 degree cold rain tonight
I was up around Guanella Pass yesterday and it was a 40 degree cold windy rain...but no snow in site. Made for pretty leaf peeping though.
Supposedly Cheyenne has snow mix in the forecast and they are not that much higher(around 6000...of course I am down at 5280 here in Denver...literally as I am not far from the capitol) I probably have another 3 weeks before I can really hope for snow.

6300, so the snow didn't last long (not much more than a few minutes-but still the first snow).
The Elkhead Mountains have a good coating above 8000 feet-really white (for now). I see that the Park Range has a coating as well, but it's too far from here to tell at what elevation the snow line is. The webcam shows the Park Range from Steamboat, but the photo isn't the clearest.
Looks like maybe 8000-8500 feet?

Re: First snow
Yeah, that's about where the snowline was on the mountains here yesterday morning. I'd say 8,000 feet was where it was at.
Looks like Snowbasin did well, despite it's low elevation:

Anyway, I'll be climbing Mount Timpanogos out your way next week, so I hope the good weather holds.

The models are forecasting next week to be active; already rain in the forecast for Saturday and Tuesday, which likely means snow in the mountains (especially atop Mount Timpanogos). Good luck on your climb!

Re: First snow
looks like you beat Denver this year...but it looks like Denver could get a good shot(possibly even accumulation) come this Saturday afternoon and evening...if GFS comes true, which I hope it does, we would be getting a few inches of wet snow
If it does we would be about like last year as Denver's first snow was early october.

Re: First snow
We have a good shot of snow again on Friday.
Dang, 100% chance of snow in the Wasatch Mountains:

Looks like my trip to Timpanogos is canceled.

Looks like they are even forecasting snow down in the cities.

Re: First snow
Denver looks to get some light accumulation starting in the wee hours of sunday...pretty cold day ahead. Although still nothing like October last year, we had 4 separate snows in October, one of which was like 7 inches of heavy wet snow that brought down some trees.

Re: First snow
Well, tonight is quite possibly one of the most drastic weather changes I have ever witnessed in my life. At 4:00 it was 80 degress, by 8:00 north winds kicked i and went from about 72 to 54 by 9:00. North winds howled, and the outflow was actually visible on radar. by 10:00 it was in the 40's. some light drizzle began about 10:30, and now as we close in midnight I have had Rain snow mix (downtown, which was supposed to be rain until at least 3:00 and probably not have full changeover until early morning), with temp holding aroun 39. snow only in the heavier showers now, but it has definately been ahead of schedule and stronger than anticipated. The NWS mets no bones about upgrading the palmer divide to a WSW, instead of a SABSA, with castle rock now expected to pick up to a foot. Metro area looks to get anywhere from 1-3 overnight, and 3-7 tomorrowed, this compared to the 1-3 total predicted at 5:00 this afternoon. Gotta love Denver

Re: First snow
Well after some breif rain snow mix last night the precip ended until 7:30 this morning, at which point heavy to moderate snow began to fall. The snow was actually more like sleet at first as some of it was bouncing, which proved a nice layer for the real snow to accumulate on . we have gotten about an inch in the last hour. i have also counted 6 claps of thunder...I havent heard thundersnow since the blizard of december of'06 and that was only once
