There is no getting around it, the monster blizzard currently raging could be one of the top ten worst in the past 100 years for portions of the Northeast! I was just reading some of the forecast discussions and run down of the warnings in place, and it is quite possible that hurricane force winds will be felt in some coastal areas of New England. Current radar images show heavy snows with possible thunder-snow storms over the Atlantic- south of Long Island. Surface pressures are falling rapidly and the wind is really picking up across much of Long Island and areas near Cape Cod. The storm will also affect the tropics some- as the latest discussion from the NHC indicates that cold air will sweep in to the Gulf of Mexico in what could be the strongest surge of winter this season. And speaking of surge- there will be a moderate storm surge in certain coastal areas of New England. The best site to start with to see the extent of this historic storm is: Weather.gov. You can click on the map to zoom in to any region you wish. Stay safe and warm if you live where this storm will affect you. I'll be hoping for the best for all of our visitors up north!
