Winter is finally here in N.C.
The High pressure to our north is getting kicked out sooner than the models were saying at first so only the northern foothills and mountains of N.C will see any accumilations if at all. Our forecast calls for a possibility up to a 1/4 of ice which is no big dealio. Half an inch or higher is when things get bad. I live about 30 mins from Boone and we are only in a winter weather advisory which everyone knows THAT MEANS NOTHING
You need a winter storm warning or ice storm warning to start worrying . It is a shame this all didnt come together a little better because most of the piedmont and central N.C. could have had a chance at seeing some decent snow for a change. Warm air is going to move in real quick and even the mountains will change to all rain before its over with. I really dont think this will be a big deal at all BUT.... the cold is here to stay for a while with our lows are going to be in the low 20s or high teens with highs only around 41 by this weekend after the next front comes through sometime mid or late this week. Our worse weather in N.C. is usually in February SOOOOO.... N.C. is looking good for some chances of snow if this pattern holds together. It looks like it will with the jet stream not wanting to move all that much and dipping as far south as it is. N.C. could be hit by snow OR the the worst possible situation ONE ICY MESS for the month of February. Lets hope it is all snow and no sleet and freezing rain. I want my power to stay on.

The temperature this morning is 33.4 at 8:50 a.m. here in my area with only a light drizzle cold rain. Our temperature should be dropping now to around 31 especially since the moisture arrived here around 6:30. Even though it is not really reaching the ground yet the temperature was supposed to drop and most areas were above freezing this morning and our low was supposed to be like 26 from what NOAA said. NOAA out of Blacksburg never gets our forecast right. Since I have lived up here they have maybe gotten 1 forecast pretty much right on the money.Lowpressure wrote:I was thinking this system would be a bit warmer than forecast, and that has verified in our area. I do agree that the pattern will be much more condusive for winter weather after mid-week. They have introduced some sleet into the forecast for wed here.
