LOOKS LIKE LONGWAVE PATTERN WILL NOT BE SUPPORTIVE OF
ANY MORE FRONTAL EVENTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA FOR SOME TIME.

That was taken out of the Miami Discussion as of today. It really was nice well it lasted.

No more frontal events for a while in South Florida mean winter is over? Image

Will be quite amusing when those Miami forecasters eat some crow pie later.

Breaking 40 degrees 4 times in 1 week is pretty good though. I am sure it will get even colder in February.

I think well get a reprieve but in February I think cold fronts will march down the state once again. Alaska is starting to cool down to normal and with the cold pool of air hopefully the Eastern half of the country will look more like winter.

I'm starting to have doubts whether the deep south will get true arctic fronts even in Feb. We might get fronts to only bring the temps back down to normal climatology. Maybe some of that arctic air in Alaska will come down but without snow pack how cold could it be before moderating.

snowpack is beginning to build back in the plains. Chicago got their first 1"+ snowfall since mid December yesterday.

It'll melt long before the arctic front gets there, if this forecast is any indication:

I just turned the AC on. Its 82 degrees in the house and hot enough to wear shorts and t-shirt outside and its night. Hate to think how hot its going to be tomorrow. Wish we would get some rain. The tomatos are huge on the vine, but could use a little rain. What's winter? The Fair is coming soon, and we usually have a little blast of cold weather during that period so I'm hoping for a break before the heat sets in earnest. I checked one of the buoys in the GOM a couple of days ago and the water temp was 79+degrees. Incredible for January and doesn't bode well for hurricane season 2006.

By normal, do you mean well below normal--reaching record lows?

I meant to write well below normal, I'm banking on some of that spilling into the lower 48.

Expecting "Winter" in South Florida is like expecting good music at a Britney Spears concert.
