Potent storm effecting east coast Tues/Wed

#1 Postby pawxguy » Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:28 pm

Hi all,
A few observations to back up my statement.
1. Temperature gradient of nearly 40 degrees. 31 snow Dayton, 70 in eastern NC as I write.
2. An 850 mb south wind of nearly 80 mph. Not too shabby. That'll transport quite a bit of moisture! Speaking of...
3. 2 inches rain likely for my area should make for an interesting flood potential with the ground pretty much frozen.

Did I say shabby?!

no, a 44F temp. gradient in 400 mi. is not bad at all. Here in Houston we had temps. in the middle 70s yesterday and today we only reached the upper 50s, and right now I am sitting at the freezing mark. What a difference a day makes!

There is a steady 25 mph wind here (Eastern NC,) with gusts of up to 50. Warm, too, over 70 degrees, and still climbing at 1:00 in the morning.

Front just passed through. Temp dropped 12 degrees (73 to 61) in 10 minutes, and is still dropping. My house isn't shaking from the wind anymore, either.

I see there's a hurricane force wind warning out over the open Atlantic, you don't see that too often, especially for winter storms.

Yeah we could even get peak gusts of up to 70 mph tonight up here, with heavy rain and maybe some thunder! They think all the rain, snow melt and wind may cause an ice jam to take out the longest covered bridge in the World, which is North of my area in Hartland NB  What a wild storm
