STRONG TROPICAL STORM number 8

(FILIPO)

Maximum winds (averaged over 10 minutes) estimated at sea: 100 km/h.

Maximum gusts estimated at sea: 150 km/h.

Estimated pressure at center: 989 hPa.

Position on March 12 at 4 a.m. local time: 21.1 South / 35.5 East.

Distance from the Reunion coast: 2050 km to sector: WEST

Distance from Mayotte: 1380 km to sector: SOUTH-WEST

Movement: SOUTH-WEST, at 15 km/h.

System information:

- The strong tropical storm FILIPO is approaching a few dozen km from the coast of Mozambique. The heart of the system, where the most violent winds are encountered, begins to affect the northern coast of Inhambane province. The center of the system is expected to make landfall between late night and early Tuesday morning in the far north of Inhambane province between the mouth of the Save River and Bazaruto Island, near Inhassoro.

- Weather conditions and sea conditions continue to deteriorate in the provinces close to the point of impact: strong to locally destructive winds, heavy rains which can cause flooding, strong waves at the coast and submersion of certain portions of the coastline. These disrupted conditions will continue until Wednesday morning, in particular heavy rains and the risk of flooding, while spreading towards the far south of the country. An improvement is expected from Wednesday evening as the system moves away over the ocean off the south-east of the country.

- Residents of the southern provinces of Mozambique are invited to closely monitor the evolution of the forecasts and follow the instructions issued by local authorities.

MODERATE TROPICAL STORM number 8

(FILIPO)

Maximum winds (averaged over 10 minutes) estimated at sea: 85 km/h.

Maximum gusts estimated at sea: 120 km/h.

Estimated pressure at center: 993 hPa.

Position on March 12 at 10 a.m. local: 21.8 South / 35.1 East.

Distance from the Reunion coast: 2085 km to sector: WEST

Distance from Mayotte: 1460 km to sector: SOUTH-WEST

Movement: SOUTH-SOUTH-WEST, at 15 km/h.

System information:

- The tropical low pressure system FILIPO landed this morning around 5:00 a.m. (Mozambique local time) in the far north of Inhambane province, near the town of Inhassoro, at the Moderate Tropical Storm stage.

- On land for a relatively short time, the system has kept its tropical structure and is currently concentrating strong and even locally destructive winds along the coast of Inhambane province.

- Apart from the strong winds currently encountered, the weather conditions and sea state continue to deteriorate in the area close to the point of impact, particularly in terms of precipitation with heavy rains which can cause flooding and flash floods, strong waves at the coast and flooding of certain portions of the coastline, particularly south of Vilanculos.

- These disrupted conditions will continue until Wednesday morning, in particular heavy rains and the risk of flooding, while spreading towards the far south of the country. An improvement is expected from Wednesday evening as the system moves away over the ocean off the south-east of the country.

- Residents of the southern provinces of Mozambique are invited to closely monitor the evolution of the forecasts and follow the instructions issued by local authorities.
