ASCAT finding 40 to 45 knot winds

Based on the convection I'd say it is now a 35knot tropical storm.

Based on the late evening ASCAT passes, you were probably correct. I have no idea whether Navy Brazil does best track adjustments (I doubt it), but this probably reached TS strength around the time it transitioned to a tropical cylone. It's too bad the earlier ASCAT passes missed the strongest winds.

It looks like NOAA has this internally as "INVEST1" / IN1, could change the thread title to that. Or not, since I assume this'll be named Akara fairly soon

No reason to edit the header. A Tropical Cyclone is "beyond" an INVEST.

Interesting choice of verbiage in the header ("DISTURBANCE"). This should have been labeled "TROPICAL CYCLONE", given that it's still being called a TD by Navy Brazil, but obviously of TS strength now. The next set of Warning and Analysis products from all agencies should call it 'Akará'.
