That's Lee's center, but it is sort of lacking a well-defined eyewall. Minimal convection over the center.

Lee seems like he's been around since last hurricane season

Poor Lee has been on the decline for a whole week.

Lee's transition to ET looks like it has more than just started, it looks nearly complete. Plane isn't finding any hurricane force wind yet. May still have a small pocket. Note that you cannot use FL wind to convert to surface wind outside of heavy convection in the eyewall of a hurricane, and Lee has no such convection. FL winds will be much higher than surface winds in this type of storm.

Re: ATL: LEE - Hurricane - Discussion
Lee looks like a 60 kt ET storm this morning. However, the NHC will keep it a hurricane. They need to keep coastal New England residents from ignoring it, as it will produce TS winds along the coast as it passes. Extratopical storm doesn't sound as threatening as hurricane. Have to keep coastal residents safe. Fortunately, I don't deal with the public, so I can say it's ET and may have only a small area of hurricane force wind, if that.

Re: ATL: LEE - Hurricane - Discussion
Was a windy night in Bermuda. Sustained tropical storm force for 24 hours, sustained hurricane winds in all elevated areas. Very impressive waves on the south shore but they are used to that. About 1/3 of the country without power but no significant damage; power should be back on today. Most offices opening in the next hour or two. Looks like the ferries are running already
Minimal rain. We had a couple bands before midnight and not much after that.

Lee looks less tropical than Margot at the moment despite being further WSW.
Why did the extratropical transition for Lee kick in so early?

Lee began moving over cooler water yesterday afternoon/evening. That, combined with increasing shear helped it get going on its transition last night. Looks nearly complete now. I see the plane may have found one tiny area of 64 kt winds north of the center. NHC will probably go with 70 kts. They don't want to indicate too much weakening. Maybe they will surprise me and go with 65 kts.

This buoy is directly in the path of COC, already reporting well above TS winds.
