Radar data from Brownsville, Texas, indicate that the center of
Harold reformed to the north of the previous Air Force Hurricane
Hunter fixes and has now made landfall over Padre Island, Texas
between Port Mansfield and Corpus Christi. The NOAA Buoy at Padre
Island recently reported sustained tropical-storm-force winds with
gusts around 50 kt, and tropical-storm-force have very recently been
reported along portions of the south Texas coast. Bands of heavy
rain are spreading inland over south Texas, mostly to the north of
the center. The initial intensity is set at 45 kt based on radar
data and surface observations.

Harold is moving quickly to the west-northwest at 18 kt in the flow
on the south side of a strong mid-level ridge. The storm is
expected to move farther inland across southern Texas and northern
Mexico during the next day or so as it remains on the south side of
the ridge.

Since the center of the storm has reached the coast, the window for
strengthening has closed. Land interaction should cause a quick
decay, and Harold is expected to become a tropical depression later
today and dissipate on Wednesday.


KEY MESSAGES:

1. Heavy rainfall is expected across south Texas through early
Wednesday, and may produce areas of flash and urban flooding. Across
portions of northern Coahuila and northern Nuevo Leon in Mexico,
flash flooding with possible landslides in mountainous terrain is
expected through Wednesday.

2. Coastal flooding is possible along the south Texas coast
through this afternoon.

3. Tropical storm conditions are expected to continue in the
warning area during the next several hours.

CRP reports sustained wind 32 gusting 48 kts (that's 2-min winds). Basically, low end TS there. Brownsville won't get much rain at all, I'm afraid.

Other than about 3-4 counties in south TX, looks like most won't get much rain either. This death ridge sucks.

Corpus Christi area in for some big rains

Everything that gets near the coast (Galveston to Houston) dries up. We're missing the rain it looks like.

Well, I'll be a suck-egg mule. I just went outside and saw droplets on the car's windshield. I've heard legends about that sort of thing happening, when "water falls from the sky." Hard to believe...

I'm in Alvin, about 25 miles south of Houston.

The elders, according to our long time historian, Portastorm, say that those white things in the sky used to produce something called, "rain". A very odd liquid, it supposedly was used to hydrate and irrigate the planet. I will defer to young Porta on this.

I see some odd echo on radar just west of I-45 and north of 610. Another one over Hobby airport. Could that be the mysterious water falling from the sky?

By the way, peak gust I saw in Corpus was 54 kts, which is about 63 mph. Sustained wind was just below TS strength. No evidence now of TS wind near the coast. Harold has likely already weakened to a TD. NHC will keep it a TS in the next advisory just in case.

We're continuing to miss it in the Cypress/Spring area. I don't think it's going to get that far north. Still hope for a few hours though.

Corpus Christi airport just reported the first sustained TS wind - 34 kts gusting 50 kts (39 mph gusting 58 mph) at 12:53pm.

Crazy how GOM systems and the Texas Coastline likes to ramp up just before landfall.

I have had a whopping 0.08 inches of Rain according to my PWS. Officially at the McAllen Airport 0.23 so far...I don't like being on the south side of a tropical system. Happy for all the folks in South Texas getting some rain and at least this will be a good rain maker for the watershed.
